Smile Scout report

Since the start of this great country, scouts have played an important part of our history and safe being of future trail blazers…Therefore I am pleased to report that I have arrived at Ironhorse Lodge, site of STC II , the roads and folks along the way where friendly…so proceed on to Western Northern Carolina.. I await your arrival.., other Curve Cowboys have arrived also.

Several nice additional to Ironhorse awaits you, the pool table has been moved to an upstairs loft overlooking the lodge dinning and big screen viewing area. Campsites have been improved as well and the back porch has been extended…

Also you TEXAS guys, John and Charlene visited the Hill Country during March and sent back two 4 foot Metal Texas Stars to be displayed here.. Charlene told me this afternoon that she was impressed by the display of both the Star and Texas flags at home out that way…

Nice, chamber of commerce weather today, around 80 degrees and sunshine, we have a 30-40 % chance of free bike wash later this week..

The Scout wasn’t the first to arrive, Yarko ( from Chicago) and a friend came in yesterday, they are out riding and another guy, not signed up (but that’s ok)… Larry (hunter?) on 06 LT from Michigan…

Yarko must have taken “my last to sign up and arrive cut the firewood post to heart”… he is the first to arrive…

John Powell is doing OK after his “get off” this weekend, totaled the LT, had good gear on and it showing very little damage, helmet full face helmet (skymax?) looks new, few scratches on the back… accident happen on 90 degree curve in route to the Deal Gap, a 10 MPH curve, met a car pulling boat, he doesn’t remember much of the accident, bruise chest, maybe from the XM radio mount, cracked ribs… bike totaled, about 8,000 damage to car and boat… he is a lucky guy… and a great host and owner here at Ironhorse… BTW the windshield is still working..will raise up and down..

Ok, I got to go and scout the dinner tonight and then the CBS (chocolate brownie sundae). This scout business isn’t so bad…somebody has to do it…

Come on…it’s safe in thm thar hills….

Don, Mel says...

save a CBS for her for Friday night after she gets there 'cause she will need it. She's in the middle of a graduate IT class that is wearing her little pattutie out.

Don, I got the 6k service done Saturday, new tires yesterday, put the LT on the Uhaul trailer tonight (not a lot of fun; hope I can get some hands to help unload it), and a little test drive around the block. As we stepped back to admire our handiwork we noticed the car is the same color as the LT! If it weren't for the rusty, beat-up Uhaul trailer we'd have a nice package going down the highway.

FWIW: I'll be putting another thread out there momentarily with some last-minute LT tie-down questions. What a PITA the first time through... It's not 100% certain we are going to trailer this beast to NC; may ride it down after all!

Either way, we'll see you all Thursday after lunch barring any incidents with this rig.

Obviously there must be online connectivity at Iron Horse, is that correct?

I'll have to get my daily "fix" there, as I doubt the Tuskegee Motel has anything remotely related to an internet connection. I could be wrong; will find out tomorrow!

Howard...you betcha! Didn't you know that LT stands for Lap Top? There will be more laptops inside the lodge checking email and surfing than you can shake a stick at.

Cool. But, rather than emailing each other from across the room, shouldn't we be out riding?

You know what we ought to do? We ought to have a web cam feeding live video & audio to this site, from STC II! We could broadcast our tech sessions and other goings-on.

here are pics of how Iuse the straps to tie down my LT, for the rear I removed the rear seat and installed a set of long soft ties arouund the rear frame section shown in the pics (I made these and have some coming up for sale soon)

the front is self explanitory
here are the pics, I towed my LT from FL to Atlanta when the final drive went at highway speeds the whole way(70-80) with no problems, it has onl;y been towed once but I kept the rear straps folded under the seat just in case

Don, you can keep the polk salat!

Joe left the house this morning around 7:45. I am not sure if he will riding any roads around Toms way or not. He is on his Ninja. He's got more stuff on his Ninja than most have on their LT's!

I will be leaving at or around 5 today. Hold the fort down and y'all behave. I hope to have my low beam HID installed tomorrow.

Prolly be best to film it and drop it on a CD AFTER all the asylum inmates have scattered!!

Have a grrreat time, Howard. You're gonna fit right in, I kin tale. BTW, when it's Dragon's turn for story tellin' around the campfire, ax him 'bout Grif's elevator introduction in Gatlinburg!!!

He couldn't remember where you told him but I mentioned Little River Canyon and Desoto State Park. He may just head on up towards STCII.

I told him to ride over Fort Mountain and come up throught the south side of NC.

When are you coming up?
