Smile Blue Ridge Parkway

Anyone out there on the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend? I was stopped at an overlook in NC and saw a group of 5 or 6 riders go by with 2 LT's in the group. I got a honk, waves and a 'Nice looking bike!' from them.

I've had my '05 LT for about six months and put a bit over 5000 miles on it (and that's with it sitting in the garage 3 months for the winter). I'm loving this bike , although, initially I was concerned about how top heavy it is. Following the advice from the guys on this forum on how to handle that and it's really not an issue anymore. My wife really loves the comfort, although she gets a bit nervous and gives my ribs a squeeze when I really lean into a curve. She also doesn't like the fact that her arms hang over the rear speakers and muffle the sound. Arm rests, maybe?

One question - I have a squeak when I turn the handle bars. I think it's just plastic rubbing or could it be a sign of impending disaster?

Thanks, guys.

I believe that was my POSSE. A couple Electra-Glides, Blue / Black and a Gold / Black, a Black Goldwing and the LT's were Yellow Metallic (Gold, like yours, if I remember correctly) and mine was the Dark Graphite Metallic (Gray) one.

We enjoyed 5 days in Western NC with our wives. Stayed in a cabin in Franklin, NC and rode some really great roads. HWY 28 is an absolute blast to ride. The falls on the way to Highlands were nice. The BRP, The Great Smoky Mountains over to Tennessee, The Cherahola Skyway and The Dragon. We stopped at Johns Knob (about halfway through the Cherahola) to visit a site where a C-141B crashed in 1982. Our brother riding the Goldwing was supposed to be on that training mission but was scratched at the last minute. Nine crewmen lost their live that day. There is still a crater in the mountain from the crash the happened 31 years ago. It can be seen on Bing Maps or Goggle Maps.

I pray you two had as much fun as we did. We are already planning the next one.

On my 02 the rubber seal occasionally squeaks. I have had pretty good luck with using some dry teflon spray lubricant to reduce or eliminate this squeak.

Arm rests still leave the passenger arms in front of the speakers. Intercom system solved this problem for us.

Re: Blue Ridge Parkway

Jesse,
You are correct, sir. Nice to put a name to the machines. We had a blast! Didn't get off the parkway much, although we did ride 226A into Little Switzerland and 19 through Cherokee. I have to leave some more reasons to head that way again! Meet up next time I'm in the area? Maybe later this year, after our ride to Nova Scotia. Anybody have any 'must see's' up there other than the Cabot Trail and Bay of Fundy?

Roy, thanks for the tips on the teflon spray and intercom (doh!). One thing the ride made clear is the benefit of a GPS. The bike is already wired for a Garmin 665. I just need to convince myself it's worth the $700.

Re: Blue Ridge Parkway

No to hijack but I was on the Blue Ridge Parkway heading south on May 22-23, with two Multistradas and a HD. Did a big loop f the south including NOLA, now in Nags Head, heading toward home in VT tomorrow via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel and up the eastern shore of Maryland in what looks like thunderstorms.

Taking care of the squeak as advertised and an intercom of some type are definitely the way to go - as is a GPS. We find it invaluable, but also use paper maps for the "big picture".
