Military Museum Tour Continues...

A group of us are planning a trip to the museum at the Marine Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC on Oct. 13. For those of you who have been on the trips to the military museums in the southeast, you know the museums are always top-notch and we hardly ever run anyone out of gas! Sorry, Jessie! Just as in the past, I've ordered good weather for that day. Might be a little warm. We're going to "Parish" Island, you know! We're planning to meet at the museum at 11:00 and since this is on an active military base, there may be a delay getting through the gate. Clicky link to the website --> http://parrisislandmuseum.com/ If you'd like to add your name to the list, I'll start it right here.

Re: Military Museum Tour Continues...

I'm out,
That is the same weekend of the Barbor Motorsports Park Vintage Festival. My buddy Joe Gardela is planning on racing his 1912 Harley Davidson there that weekend. I have known Joe for over 30 years. He is running his 1914 Harley Davidson in th 2012 Canon Ball Run in Sept. & racing his 1912 Harley two weeks later at the Vintage Festival.

If I go to Barbor Motorsports Park I'll also miss the SMFR at the Iron Horse Lodge the next weekend.

Unhappy Re: Military Museum Tour Continues...

Sylvia,s birthday, can't make it. Don't know if my back will be any better than then. Large doses of steroids are part of the diet right now.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying " I'll try again tomorrow".

Re: Military Museum Tour Continues...

I may be able to make it, gotta get closer to the date so I can see how other things work out.

Any recommended camping in the area? I found Tuck In The Woods campground nearby -

Here's my Q&A with them -

What are your tent camping rates for mid October? Are your showers coin operated? Also, I saw a picture of an alligator in the photo gallery, are there alligators on or near the property?

Our tent sites are 27.00 per nite or 161.97 per week. Weekly rate reflects paying for 6 nites and receiving the 7th nite free. We have a really clean bath house and it is NOT coin operated. If you would like to make a reservation please call the office at 843-838-2267 between the hours of 10:00 AM - 6:00PM.

The picture of the alligator was taken in 2008 before she began to call Tuck her permanent residency. Spring 2009 we had her removed from the fresh water fishing pond and the fencing has kept all alligators out of our pond. No unwanted visitors to date.

Re: Military Museum Tour Continues...

Since I started this thread, I feel bad about having to back out of the tour. My back is just causing me too much pain to be able to ride that far. 20 miles might as well be 20,000.

As an aside, since I can't ride it, my 2005 LT is for sale in the classifieds.

Sorry to hear about your back. You definitely don't want to do anything that will aggravate it. I have a herniated disc between L3 and L4, so I can definitely empathize with you. Hopefully you can find a treatment that works.
