BR Parkway ?

Thinking of riding up BRP north of Asheville, NC. Familiar with west of there.

Any suggestions of what to do and see?

Any off routes worth taking?

Of interest to my wife?

Re: BR Parkway ?

David,

I think your wife will love that ride. The BRP has leisurely speed (that's strictly enforced) that will give both of you plenty of sightseeing time while riding. There are restaurants right on the parkway with fairly good eats as well.

Should be a nice trip.

Greg

Re: BR Parkway ?

We were there the first week of april. Decided to do the Cherohaha skyway instead of the BRP, since it was more "on our way home" . Only suggestion is, do the ride, either one, on a clear day. We were in the clouds almost the whole time, could only see a little beyond the front tire. Good thing there was a double yellow center line and a white side line. Otherwise wouldn't have know where the road was.

Re: BR Parkway ?

Have done the Cherohola many times... In fog and rain, and sun. Sun is best!!!

It is one of the best roads out there, and there are several good places to eat at the TN end.

We typically stay at the Iron Horse resort near Deals Gap- great motorcycle resort.

Re: BR Parkway ?

I have done the parkway many times. It is a great ride if you get there before the vacation season and then there are lots of people and not fun to ride. End to end (with the nat park it is 550 miles) and almost at the end is Great Smokey Mtn Nat park and at the real end there is Cherokee NC. I think there is no better ride two up in the east. You can come off the parkway multiple times and enjoy lots of stuff.. You can plan on 2 or three days of really relaxed riding and turn around and head back and it will be different..

So my suggestion is end to end and end. 1100 miles... what's next?

Re: BR Parkway ?

There are so many good roads that connect to the parkway and most lead to little out of the way places that your wife might like. One of the best maps that I've ever seen is an
Atlas and Gazetteer published by Delorme. They have them for almost every state in the union. Get yourself one of these. Amazon has plenty at reasonable prices.

One place my wife and I recently went to, north of Asheville, was Weaverville. Nice little town with a couple decent restaurants and local shops featuring regional artists. Another nice place is Hot Springs. Either of these places can be accessed by the roads leading off the parkway.
