Question JPeg XL Install

I'm trying to decide whether to attempt installing the JPegs myself or let the dealer do it. Does anyone have any experience doing this? What would you recommend - given minimal mechnical skills by the installer?

Re: JPeg XL Install

If you have the tools required and know how to read there is no reason you can't do this yourself. I did mine in less than 2 hours and that included lunch.

Why am I here and what day is it??

I'll be in Tampa this weekend, depending on when I get back I'll plan on swinging by.

Looking at some of the other J Peg installation posts, it doesn't seem to be out of reach. So if I do miss you guys I just take a shot at it.

Re: JPeg XL Install

If you can read, follow instructions, and turn a wrench, the install is pretty straight forward. It took me all of 2 hours to do. Most of that time was spent taking the necessary Tupperware on and off. They are great for long trips. You mostly likely will not use them around town.

It helps to spray some WD-40 or pipe breaker into the tip-over tubes and let soak for a while in your bike. They can be difficult to yank from the bike.

While you wait, you can study the instructions some more.
Go slow and be careful drilling the plastic. The job is not really too difficult. Good luck.

Re: JPeg XL Install

Ok, I got the left side on with no problem. Drilling the plastic was probably the most difficult part. I used a 1" drill bit and then finished sizing the hole using a RotoZip saw.

On the right side I ran into a problem. Got the whole assembly together - making sure the spring was in the hole before installing the J Peg arm and ball. But there doesn't seem to be any indents. I think the ball is pushed up into the hole - like what happened to Toolman.

After I get back from Tampa I'll pull the assembly and confirm that the ball is in the hole. What a pita.

Any chance that the spring can push the ball back out at some point?

Greg
