The Door To My Dump Will Be Open Sat. The 16th

I'll be adjusting the lash on my bike next sat. the 16th. I'll be pulling the cam's swapping & changing valve buckets. Stop by if you want to watch. If you need something done let me know in advance. Anytime after 8:00 will be fine.

Wish I could make it Dave.

I'm due for a valve adjustment myself and would have loved to help with one first.

Shane has a Lacrosse tournament in Wilmington that weekend so I'm gone all weekend.

By the way, where you able to find buckets, buy new ones or surface grind your old ones?

Good Luck.

Just noticed your posts title "The Door To My Dump Will Be Open Sat. The 16th" Oh to have such a dump. I'm hoping someone has a camera Sat. & can document your "Dump" for the post "show us your garage". Three floors of wonderment.

Sorry you can't make it Joe. Time is short with the kids. Seems like yesterday when I was doing all the school & scouting things with my son. But in reality its been over five years. Any time you need yours done just let me know. I'll check the surface finish on the new buckets on sat. I'll also determine what side of the bucket BMW grinds to set the thickness. I suspect it's the cam side. The profilometer will let me know how high the peaks & how low the valleys are on the surface finish on the cam side of the buckets.

Thanks Dave. My Wife and Daughter are visiting colleges that weekend, so it is going fast.

Do you figure they grind each one individually or do they just pick the right thickness? I guess I'm wondering how thick the hardening penetrates? How much can you grind and still have enough left to hold the strength? Am I being paranoid?

The grinding has to have been done on the inside. All buckets from 2.50 to 2.95 (in my stock) have the same length. approx 26.04mm and the same top thickness of 2mm. The difference is the height of the raised center on the inside. Almost none on a 2.50 and about .7mm tall on a 2.95.

I guess I'll have to come up with a easy way to whittle the center down & keep it square.

Re: The Door To My Dump Will Be Open Sat. The 16th

Had 5 LTs in the dump today . I changed & moved my buckets around today & got them all on the loose side except one intake. I have one intake at .006 oh well it's better than the .002 than it was. After I removed the 16 buckets Lee & I measured them plus the 8 others I had. All 24 buckets were within .0005 of the # etched in them. Next we measured the thickness next to the valve stem area. .082 to .085 a difference of .005. I should be ready for next weekend thanks guys for all the help.

Re: The Door To My Dump Will Be Open Sat. The 16th

Thanks for opening your garage today, Dave. Well, not just today. I've not known it to be closed unless you've got something that just HAS to be done. You're a GREAT friend and you always go the extra mile to help all of us mechanically-challenged knuckle-scrapers!

Let me know if you want to try the Airrider.
