How About A Florida Rte?

I promised Hans awhile ago that I'd try to set something up now that our Flat Land weather has cooled a bit. Well I need to apologize since I got side tracked, time flies when your having fun.

Anyway, Our good friend David Shealey made us aware of a neat Muscle Car Museum right in our own back yard located in Puta Gorda, FL. I had contacted them awhile back and learned that they have a restaurant on site that can accommodate 60 people and so thought it might be a good location to meet. Unfortunately they don't offer group discounts, the fee for the museum is $10. Anyway, we can kick tires in the parking lot, get a bite to eat and visit the museum if you so desire.

Here's a link to the museum: http://musclecarcity.net/

So, how about Jan 16 as a date for an RTE. I would suggest that we plan to arrive so that we can eat around noon and then those that want to visit the museum can do so after lunch.

I'll start the attendance list here. If you plan to attend please cut and paste the list in your reply. That way I can get a head count and call for a reservation.

Thanks Lynn,

Most likely I will be there (should be a nice Florida winter day) unless there is an emergency in the shark tank at The Florida Aquarium. Occasionally I have to fill in for someone at the last minute...... thanks for coordinating it.

Looks like I'll miss this one after making the last three. Too bad, but I'll be about 10,000 miles away trout fishing in NZ. Hey, someone's got to do it.

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

I was at the Oldsmar flea market the other day and on the way in I spotted an old Corvette.

As I was admiring the car, the owner showed up and started chatting up about his toy.

He had owned it since he was 17 and was now in his 60's.

Muscle Cars. Love em'. I'm in absent a last minute scheduling conflict....

If anyone is heading up from the St. Pete/Clearwater area and wants to ride up together, drop me a pm.

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

I have no idea if I'll be able to attend,
I'm just taking things one day at a time,

my priorities and all my free time right now are centered around Dad,
he's 85 and not doing well,
in 2009 he's been in the hospital six times a nursing home twice,
he didn't like it there,

last Monday I brought him home with in house nursing care daily.
We all know this story will not have a happy ending.
It is important that I be there for him.

if you feel the need to respond please do it privately so the thread doesn't get hijacked.

Y'all have a good time
and tell someone that you love them while you still can!

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

As much as I would like to attend I will more than likely be working Saturdays until sometime near the Daytona 500. I'm showing about 700 miles so if by chance I don't have to work next sat. & the earliest I could leave on friday would be 5:30pm it would definitely be an easy ride. We are working tomorrow even though we don't need to that's just the way it is this time of year.

I think you may have misunderstood, SmokinJoe. I run the nursery at a local hospital and will be on call the entire weekend. Otherwise, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Such is life...

OK ya'll, I'll be calling the Museum tomorrow to make final arrangements for our visit so If planning on joining us but haven't yet added you name to the list please do it soon. So far it looks like around 16+/- 2 or 3 folks are planning on attending. (Hope the rain holds off).
Since some are coming from some distance I'll try to make the lunch for around 12:30.

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Lynn, Thanks for the great time, I enjoyed the company of all. The food was great and the car museum was well worth the visit.
Till next time, good riding.

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Sorry we missed it. Minor hand surgery last week prevented our participation.

Maybe you'll consider coming to The Villages next time. Several nice restaurants overlooking the water and lots of shops aimed at the SO. http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/marketSquare.asp

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Well, we had a small but elite group that participated and I believe all had a enjoyable time. The weather cooperated, the food was pretty good and reasonable and the museum was definitely worth the trip. I think at last count we had around a dozen folks that made the trip. Unfortunately didn't get a group photo but I've attached a couple of shots inside the museum for those that are interested.

Anyone has an idea for a destination for our next gathering?

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Good to see everyone that showed yesterday. Food wasn't bad; place does a lot more business than I thought. Museum brought back a few memories of my childhood that's for sure. The guy has quite a few rare pieces in there.

Gail and I made it back dry having missed a pretty good rain that cleared the house not more than a few minutes before we got there. Only a few pictures as the resident genius forgot to put the card back in the camera...

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Dave,

Thanks for sharing the great pictures and Lynn, thanks for coordinating the get together. I had to run after lunch ( remodeling project going on) but enjoyed seeing everyone and sharing some good food. Nice ride down from Tampa and back with just a tiny bit of mist in the air at times. Made it back before the big rains.... Nice to see more than one K1200LT at a time....

Re: How About A Florida Rte?

Thanks for setting this up. I was the one that got there late, and I live near Punta Gorda. If we have a RTE out of town, then I have to be off call, which means no emergency surgery.
Glad everyone made it home safe and dry.
See ya next time.
