Re: FL riders going to MOA
I used to make all the National rallies, if you've never been to one by all means go
you'll never see that many BMW's in one place anywhere else.
It's like a mini bikeweek for BMW's and you can buy just about anything you can imagine from the vendors.
I'm usually "too busy" in the summertime to do any rallying and my wife refuses to go to any events that large because of the conditions of the facilities.
The last one I went to was in Ohio, we where in a Bunkhouse camper,
I even had an air conditioner so we where a lot more comfortable than the majority of attendees
because it was 96 degrees extreme humidity with no breeze at all (Florida is cooler)
the Rally committee set things up very good for the vendors and motorhomes
but the tent campers were packed in like sardines
(they put an ariel picture of a full campground in the MOA magazine that was taken on wednesday two days before the rally was to start)
I got up and hit the showers at 5 am on Friday (there were only six) in our section
and there were already 15-20 people in line the place was thrashed, no tp plugged toilets etc.
on Saturday I was there at 3.45 am there were only a dozen in line then. (I brought my own tp)
We left Saturday night because my wife was so disgusted (justifiably so)
I'm not telling you all this to discourage you,
the rally is in a great area with fantastic roads to ride all around it,
but have no illusions about the rally itself.
