Talking Goodbye LT....

Just let go of my 02 LT and gained a 07 Ultra Classic.
I've a problem with the ABS and to fix it per Touring Sport would have cost close to get this $2,900.00.Yep you heard right. I threw out a "I NEED HELP" and Mike and Dave came up from Lake Norman and flushed the system, pretty much determined that this is the problem. Stuck with riding season upon us and a whopping bill I looked at several solutions: pay the outrageous cost, ( NOT ) find a used / rebuilt system online, ( and hope it works ) or trade. I found out how little value the bike has if you don't trade back with BMW. Searching the web I found 3 dealerships who would trade with me. I went with Smokey Mountain Harley davidson in Maryville Tn. two and a half hours from here. My brother, ( rides a Road King ) and I took off on a cold but sunny morning sat. morning and found the dealership swarming with clients. The sales staff and owner were on hand to help out and I can't say enough about the service. I got full wholesale, ( KBB ) and a clean 07 Ultra Classic. Once I got home I found a couple of minor problems, ( volume switch not working passenger control ) e-mailed the owner and got a response within hours saying no problem come on back and we'll fix it and we'll look at the bike together and make sure it's perfect before you leave. Make sure to bring your wife, she'll get some major discounts, ( at least 25% ) on anything she wants, lunch and snacks are free.
I do love the LT and how it handles, but working with the BMW service guys and some of the sales staff left me feeling like, either you "pay out the ass" and like it cause it's a BMW or go away !
Just my experience.

Re: Goodbye LT....

I have to admit that while I have never liked or wanted one of their Bikes, Harley dealers know how to party, and H-D has the clothing market cornered. They do seem to adopt the whole family in ways that BMW never will.

I do not find their parts and service to be any less expensive than BMW, but my son has a Buell, so maybe that is part of it.

But never since he bought it has a month gone by without an note in the mail from his dealership inviting him to a rally, a ride, a bar-b-que at the dealership, or some free t-shirt or trinket when he can stop by.

I don't even get notices to come in for x,000 oil changes from BMW.

But I do love the way the LT goes down the road.

Enjoy your ride. It sounds like you picked a great dealership. I will think of you on my way to the BMW rally in Johnson City, TN in July.

Re: Goodbye LT....

I think I can speak for "most" of us on the forum when I say we always hate to lose another LT rider.

I would like to commend you for exiting with class,
so many times people feel the need to "run down" the LT
to justify their decision to "go to the other side"

That alone tells me you're a rider rather than a "biker"

Enjoy your new ride, I'll still wave at you.
