Talking Help ABS problem !!!!

I need some here...my abs system has failed, ( so says greenvile BMW, thought to have fixed with new battery ) and I want to sell the LT and need some advice.
The bike has been garage kept, new tires, battery, bag liners, all the bells for a pacific blue 2002 LTC with 34 k mileage. Would someone buy the LT " as is " I figure market value without the abs fixed to be 7 k, and fixed to be around 9.5 k. I'd love to get 7 k without doing any work, as money is tight right now.

HELP

Re: Help ABS problem !!!!

Hey, Kos..
maybe get a used ABS unit....if it comes from a disabled bike it may work fine and will be cheaper than new.

Good luck...

What cfell said. Try cycles recycled in morganton n,c. about 1 hr east of you on I-40. Call Fred Rowland (owner) 828-433-1067.

Smile Re: Help ABS problem !!!!

before you give up on your LT, get the entire abs system thoroughly flushed, it might just fix the problem, dealers are very quick to tell you your abs unit is toast, hoping you will spend the extra $$$ at their shop to put a new one in. The flush might work, worth a try. Either get a dealer to do it or there are members close who would be able to help, just have to ask.

Talking Re: Help ABS problem !!!! Help Flushing Braking System

Any takers in / or near Asheville with the knowledge on flushing braking systems show me how to do this ??? I have a heated garage with most of the tools, if not I'll get them. As a added bonus I'll throw on a couple of steaks / smoke some chickens / beer or whatever sound good.

Thanks

Are spectators welcome? I have bled my brakes but not the ABS yet. I won't know if I have to work this sat. until at least 5:00pm friday. Looks like I can finally ride to work tomorrow. First time this week.

I could throw a couple of pork butts on the smoker, ( o-dark thirty ) and provide some chow and drinks.

Anyone who would like to drop in, please do you can scroll up and find my address.
The garage is heated with room for another 2 LT's, ( 3 total inside ) concrete drive on the right side for plenty of parking and I'll have the guard chihuahua's under semi control so drop on in.
I will try to be up at o-dark thirty to have a couple of boston butt on the smoker for chow / also drinks.
Should be a BMW flag posted out front to mark the house.

Thanks

Man, what a bummer. Sorry to hear that it didn't work, but what a great day for a ride! Hope you guys had a great time working together anyway. And Mike, remember Lee...he got his abs unit rebuilt for about $500 somewhere fairly local.

Re: Help ABS problem !!!!

A perfect 273 mile ride. We took one way up & other route back. I met Mike & Ricky. I also learned the easy way to do the flush. I bought more dot 4 fluid on the way home & will reflush my system tomorrow.

Nice garage & also met some of your ridding buddies.

Hey Mike did Shelby get her hotdog?.

Re: Help ABS problem !!!!

I saw you guys heading West down I-40 through Morganton about 10:30 AM this morning. We were heading the other way to a showing of Riverdance.

Looks like you were gaining quickly on a couple cruiser riders just ahead of you. Hope you waved as you zipped by them.

A couple LT's on a mission in formation always look good.

Yep, and I've seen Yanni, Mama Mia twice, Fiddler on the Roof, and probably hundreds of other shows that make real men cringe

It just took me a while to "commute" to get some culture here in the Carolinas. But, one does have to have a plan, I got a good slippery mountain ride in yesterday in preparation.

So, did you get that 2720 registered or spending all your time picking on me?

Re: Help ABS problem !!!!

We actually passed many Harley type bikes on the way, but it was a good day, we learned that GS's are a bit different to flush than our bikes, but easier to do, just need to remember to hook up the QD's so it will run again, other than that I hope everyone there got over the fear of flushing out the wheel circuits and abs system.

Rick, sorry the flush didn't fix your problem. My control unit rebuild was done by Auto & Truck Electronics in Rodgersville, TN. $589.00. The lights didn't flash for all of a month. If I do the pin 21 reset, the system functions normally for 65-80 miles and then shows errors again. The rebuilder suggested I take it to the dealer and have the faults cleared. I called Motorcycles of Charlotte a few weeks ago. Was going in on Friday afternoon. Me and my big mouth. I told them about the rebuild and they didn't want to make the connection to my system then. Just showed up this morning, hoping they'd have time to check it. They were too busy, so I'll be there Tues. afternoon. I ain't sayin' nuttin' this time! If that doesn't work, I have a three year warranty. I hope not to have to use it. Getting the control unit out and back in was a REAL pain.

Mike, Dave, sounds like ya'll had a good ride today. Sorry I missed it.

Yanni? Riverdance? Mamma Mia? John does as he's told and LIKES IT! Thanks for bringing "culture" to us, John. Up until now, the only culture we've had was in our shoes!

Thanks to Mike & Dave for helping me out on the LT.

The flushing replaced the fluids and pointed out what I've feared the most. I'll be on line looking and if anybody spots one already rebuilt please let me know. Rusty & Bob has already planned to give some time on this project, hopefully I'll be back on the road soon.
It's still amazing to me that people will give time, knowledge, and a helping hand to folks they don't even know out of the goodness of their hearts.

Tell Shelby that Biscuit and Turtle sat by the fence line, after you left looking for their new friend.

Thanks again
