Blue Ridge not so blue!

Had a chance to ride with a new forum member, Charlie, today. Absolutely perfect weather. A little crowded, but not terrible. One biker down on the Parkway at about mile 350. Seemed OK, just a little broken up.

I can now definitely recommend the grub at the Mt. Mitchell restaurant. Really good stuff.

Some pics below and the rest can be seen Here

Great pics, John. Thanks for sharing. It was just as beautiful here... as I drove the car to Iron Pony to get a new tire. Just back in from putting the new tire on the bike. Maybe I'll get to ride later this week.

John,
+1 on the grub at th Mt. Mitchell stop. From the outside it looks like a typical gov't franchised stop. However, the service and food are excellent.

Great color! Too bad it doesn't stay longer.

Howard ,
Did you go with Metz again?
Good price?
How did you balance?
We stopped at the Pony last week. That is really a super store.

Sorry for steering your thread off-topic John, but he asked...

Yes, I put another Metzeler ME880 on. I haven't had issues with them and I like the increased mileage over some of the other brands. Only 3,100 miles on the old tire before I got a puncture. I'm keeping the old tire, will get an inside patch done to it, and then keep it as a reserve for someone passing through.

$209 for the tire, $12 to mount it, and $12 to balance it. I'm sure I can do better online, but then I have to find a shop that will mount it. Iron Pony won't, and the local dealer won't. "Insurance requirements" they tell me. I'm not sure I believe that.

That's $70 more than I paid in late April. What a bunch of crap. I heard the tire prices were going up but that's crazy. I know Iron Pony isn't the only one's.

On the upside, glad you had the chance to change your own rear wheel successfully. Congrats.

And Judy liked both bull jokes.

John, we were at Pisgah yesterday and boy was it crowded. Didn't stay as it was an hour or so before being seated.

Had to get back to Irohnorse for that yummy Prime Rib!

I think that everybody was on the Parkway yesterday, colors were awesome but way too much traffic.

BRP & Dragon Test

I was fortunate enough to get away last Sunday through Tuesday to Maggie Valley NC. I've had the '05 LT for about 3 weeks and I used this trip as my "test" ride. 1200 miles total on the ride. Did my NC riding on Monday. The BRP colors were awesome during my 130 mile tour, as you can see from BOWLESJ's pictures. Traffic was nearly nonexistent... a great way to ride the parkway! The Dragon wasn't as pretty to look at, but the curves are still the same... absolutely wicked! An early start on US129 ensures a very light crowd. This part of NC is always a real treat. If you've not been, get it on your agenda!

Verdict on the "test" ride? I love the bike! The muscles burning between my shoulder blades when on long, straight roads is just something I'll have to deal with. Currently working with weights to strengthen them.

Looks like the LT is a keeper!

Hey Brett,

I expected a long wait at Mt Mitchell as well, but actually only 20 minutes. Not bad.

Glad you guys had fun.
