Post Spring Training Camp II

The dates for Spring Training Camp II

April 20, 21, 22, 2006 , Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

More information later, perhaps in January 2006, however I am posting the dates so you can work your schedules.

The Place: www.ironhorsenc.com

I have booked the entire lodge and facilities for those dates, so if you call to book a room please remember to mention "LT Spring Training Camp" or my name, Don Norwood.

18 rooms, 6 RV sites with power/water, bunk house sleeps 5 or 6, plenty of tent camping spaces.

Please note: Due to the fact that the entire place* is held in reserve for our group only.... the normal cancellation policy may not be in effect.

*entire place - except camping spaces...

What will I learn at Spring Training Camp II?

Over the past 3 years I have ridden about 18K miles on my Suzuki Volusia 800. Just bought a 2005 gold K1200LT that is currently in storage until April 1st.

The LT is considerably heavier than the Vol. What type of things could I expect to practice/learn at Spring Training II?

We will have something planned for Thursday, some arrive on Wednesday but most arrive for the weekend on Friday..

This is very informal gathering, while last year it sorta grew into a great gathering. After the holidays, we'll start putting together some ideas, suggestion and see who is going to be available to help.

Going to miss it!

Don:

I hate it, but I will not be making it to the Spring Training Camp in 2006. Same weekend I am putting on the Cape Fear 1000 Rally in Wilmington, NC. May have to make Ironhorse a bonus location for some of the 24-hour rally riders and him them swing by on the way to Wilmington.

I will be. But if I repeat last year's pattern, I'll be leaving northeast Ohio Wednesday morning, not Thursday. In fact, I may leave a whole lot sooner than Wednesday.

AND...if the weather appears to be even the slightest bit better than last year, I'll probably be riding my Ninja. Not that that should concern anyone too awful much.

Appreciate your work on this, Don. Is this spring training event limited to members of this group only? Or can we invite our HD friends to attend?

Thanks.

Bring your HD friends with you, last year we had a couple, In October (Return to Irohnhorse) I had one of my HD friend there as well... As in your profession, we may a "convert" or two after STC.

Owners of Ironhorse Lodge converted over to BMW LT this year as well....
"BMW Spring Revival" I'll keep the name Spring Training Camp, we'll work on them one at a time.

Hope you and your friends can make it down, great ridings in WNC, some good information and tire kicking, food and fellowship with best folks to be found anywhere...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

An earlier poster in this thread asked what he might "learn" at this Spring "Training" Camp, not realizing that the name was a play on words from the baseball event of the same name (and in the same time frame).

Well ..... here's something you can learn (if you've never done it). If someone can bring a large enough supply of different sized buckets, my wife Sharon might be talked into supervising the removal of the LT's cams in order to replace a bucket, thereby bringing a valve lash back into spec.

Just ask her !!

A definite maybe - I hope...

Don,

I know you aren't keeping a roster yet, but put me down as a pretty sure "Maybe" - need to work out a few things here first.

Looks like some good stuff to 'learn' -- don't get much twisty riding out here, so that part has me a bit anxious, but it'll be fun -- and lots of frineds to meet.

If I do make it, I'll be staying at the Tuskeegee - been trading PMs with Joe (surely he won't lead me astray)...

... and don't call me "surely".

Actshoooooly, Joe might be leading you astray. It's awfully nice to partiskipate in events at the Iron Horse campground, sit around, eat there (breakfast and dinner) with everyone else, throw the bull, enjoy an adult beverage or three (that you brung with ya) at the end of the day, and end the evening with a short walk to your cabin at Iron Horse. Suppose it's raining ... or snowing! Are you really going to enjoy dressing up in your riding gear, then riding at night on unfamiliar, unlit roads in lousy weather to Joe's motel in place of a short walk to your cabin?

How 'bout it, Joe? What's the price advantage of the Tuskegee Motel over a beautiful, new, RIGHT THERE! cabin @ Iron Horse ???

Thanks Don.

As soon as I get a firm number, I will be making reservations. Hope to do it this week.

You all better hurry and get your spots reserved. I just took the last two RV spots with 50 amp service.

Can't wait -- sounds like a great time.

The BAD news for you is:

Whomever takes the last RV spots . . . has to offer a place for all who need a place to sleep!

If our dog Max will share his floor space, Joe, you are more than welcome.

Don, I have called and left a message (and sent e-mail) to IronHorse for that weekend. I may try to come up that Wednesday night after work and give you hand Thursday (if needed).

Glenda may drive up Saturday night for the fun, fellowship and the FOOD!

Thanks for the info on the 2610 (Mrs Claus is good)! She's kinda pretty too!

Brett,

I think they are out of the office until after Christmas, but they will be back around the 29th or 30th of Dec.

Hope you can make it up on Wed night..

Connie and I are in for Friday and Saturday nights. We're just waiting on Tammie to confirm that she got out CC #. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Steve, we know that the pleasure will be ALL YOURS! Just the idea of getting the time to visit with your smart and good-looking fellas should make your weekend!

On the serious side, you going to make the bike show in Hotlanta in March?

It will be good to see everyone again.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hey all,

What do you think about a guy from the Rockies joining your training session? The Dragon's been on my list for a while.

I am going to see about the time off and hopefully make some reservations this week...

Hey Tim,
I've been to the rockies the last three summers. It'll be hard to compete with those mountains and roads but if you're coming to the east, then you're coming to the right place. Welcome to STC and look forward to meeting ya.

Doug,

I'd say that the scenery in CO is better than the area surrounding STC II. But as for the actual riding . . . nothing beats that area. Period! I don't mean to diss CO, it's my second favorite area. But, the tri-state area (NC, TN, GA) is my home. If'n "home" is where your heart is and all.

Thanks guys,

Colorado is definetely beautiful, but the weather here is killing me. It's great in town for this time of year, but I am stuck on the plains, due to all the snow in the surrounding mountains. I live in northern CO and there are quite a few good canyons and passes. If I can make it out Joe will have to "prove" to me that the riding can't be beat.....
