Ironhorse Memorial Weekend

Well Jean had a wild hair idea Sunday nite. Why don't we go up to the Ironhorse this Saturday and ride back Sunday. Get this - no car with trailer - just the bike . Whoo hoo I can't pass that up. I got the last cabin available for Saturday night and we are signed up for that wonderful prime rib. It means missing the Huntsville Chicken Rally, but hey if Momma ain't happy - no one is happy. Evidently the Bistro in Tellico Plains is alive and well and is our scheduled luch stop before the Cherohala Skyway. Any one else headed that way this weekend?

Will miss you at "Great Chicken Rally" , but I understand, seize the moment and head to Ironhorse... Bistro is great, also I like the Tellico Cafe for a lighter lunch option (behind Hardees) and you may want to save room for that Prime Rib... think of me on my third day of "chicken" ...but it's so good at a rally....

I think she's a keeper (after thiry five years of test drives ). It has really been nice getting back into riding two up. We used to do it all the time BK (before kids). You missed meeting her in April at Ironhorse, but you will get a chance in October.

You do know this is one of 3 prime weekends for road squid at the gap?
I have gone at this time for several years, after 06, I decided to move it a couple weeks. I like a little breathing room when acting retarded, okay more retarded than usual

Yeah - Thanks, I know it Rock. We are NOT going on the Dragon (did that with her in April and on a Friday morning - it was pretty clear of others). I hope the Cherohala is not loaded with squids as it would not be a pleasant trip. I typically don't go anywhere on major holiday weekends but this was just too good to pass up.

I've yet to have any issues with squids on the Skyway. I think it's because of the layout of the road, comparing it to the Dragon where the curves are blind 90% of the time. But, I guess you know all of this already . . . now doncha?

We're going to the Gap sometime next week. Unfortunately, it may be monday. The squids'll be bitching about the OLD ppl on LTs, I guess. I usually try to let them pass in the lane, if they are patient enough. Haven't been in a couple of years and need new decals for the LT.

Mmmm... That prime rib smells mighty good tonight and Pirate Don and bride are here as well. Nice little afternoon rain shower to cut the heat. Doesn't get any better than that.

John, give my regards to John and Charlene and staff, wish I where there too!.

Nice crowd at Chicken Rally and for the first time that I can remember, someone that was in attendance won the bike.

Have a good weekend.

Don,

I stopped by the rally Friday morning for a bit - followed a fire truck in that responded to a medical call.

John and Charlene said Hi.

That place has a little bit different flavor over the memorial day weekend - distinctly H-D, GW and sport bikes. There were only two LTs there, me and Don.

We got back Sunday about an hour into the Indy race (followed it via XM). Jean had a great time and it was the first long bike ride (530miles) she had been on in over 30 years. We had a blast.

John glad to see you and Jean made it back safely. Dinner sure was good I am glad we stopped by. Leigh Anne and I had a blow out Monday on the way home but everything went well. I was right in front of Cherokee County Cycles when the rear tire went flat. We got it repaired and just as soon as I took the bike off the center stand the tire blew out. Sounded like a gun shot! Anyway I got in touch with a friend and he drove 2 hours to pick us up. When I got to the house I hooked up the trailer and went back for the bike. It really made for a stressful day but we are safe and the bike is back in the garage at the house. Now I am looking for a tire. Anyway I can't wait for your tech session I am still trying to get there it just depends on other things going on like our first grandchild being born and our son coming in from Iraq for his r and r. Anyway I am sure we will see you and Jean in the Fall.

ride safe

Glad you are OK. I saw the other post and poked a bit of fun at you. Blow outs can be scarey even if you are standing still! Hope to see you at the tech session but family is always more important than the bikes so I understand if you don't make it. Glad you were able to have dinner with us - it made the trip just that much better!

thanks

thanks! you are right in both respects, the flat was scarey and the prime rib was really good. But I think it was the brownie sundae that put me over on the weight!

it was a very nice evening and I hope to see you guys soon as well.

take care
