Tech Session UPDATE - Now the 16th of June vs. the 2nd

We have shifted out the Tech Session in North Alabama to the Saturday of 16 June.

Rick is getting an 05 brake flush and Wayne has a 24K with flush as well on a 2000. This may open some doors for people to attend that could not make the June 2nd date.

Thumbs up Wrench Turning

John,

I am a pretty good wrench turner. Like I said before, I just don't have the facility to do the work. My garage currently has a pool table in the middle of it. I am willing to do my fair share of the work, and then some. I love learning something new.

Lightbulb speedo upgrade

John,

I was thinking, (dangerous habit for me), I would like to try the speedo calibration. I have an idea that may work instead of soldering. I found some paint that is conductive. it should make the jumper conection needed for recalibration. Any thoughts?

We can solder it. I was micro-min qualified in the Navy so this stuff looks like bridge building.

You ain't gonna believe this, I know I don't. My gun club changed the date for our annual meeting. I am not sure we could change the date again. after the last time. So, I will just miss the meeting. I will still be there on the 16th.

Thumbs up Ready for Action!

I got my new rear tire today. I also managed to pick up the parts for the 24K service. All I need is the fluids. I'll get those tomorrow.

I had Bogart's do it. While I was waiting, I drooled over the GT'S GS'S and RT"S. I managed to get the parts between drool sessions.

This Could be a PM

I'm still coming.

Thought I would make this a three person thread.

I'm trying to get my front tire to last until then. Probably won't happen since I still have the 650 mile round trip to Bushtec (anyone want my homebuilt trailer) to pick up the new trailer. I guess I will scratch my on rim this time, at least I'll do a better balance job.

Should be fun. What's for lunch?

You could stop by here and we can mount your tire when you drop off my new trailer. I did pick up a bushtech hitch a while back, just haven't gotten around to getting a trailer yet.

Group ride from ATL?

VANO, ALStrickland55 or others from the ATL area that want to make this tech session, would you want to meet and ride together? I am in Acworth, GA and plan to go down early on the morning of the 16th.

John, do you have room for all us "trainees"?

Great, now all we need is some one to stop at KK on the way in and fill their top case up!

I spent the day cleaning up the garage and shop area. Whew what a mess, guess you have to hold a tech session to get up the gumption to clean stuff up.

beg off

John,
I am going to have to cancel my trip to your tech session. My son came in from Iraq today and just made it to the hospital where his wife is currently in labor to give him his first son. So Grandma and I will be in Shelby NC for the rest of the week visiting with our son and the new addition. Yes that makes me a grandpops. I don't know of anything better to be called!

maybe next time!

ride safe and have fun!

I'll be on my way back from Bushtec so I'll have plenty of room for KKs in the new trailer. Where is the nearest KK store John? I will probably be in Huntsville the night before.

Rick,

There is one on the North Memorial Parkway (Hiway 231/431) frontage road just north of University drive. I would monitor this thread for the number of people coming before you fill up a Bushtec. I can't afford to eat too many of those things.

Did you find a home yet for your home made trailer?

Hot

That KK does have the hot fresh ones right?

I'm leaving about 5am to beat some of the heat and taking the slab to Knoxville tomorrow. I have three hours to think about a route change (in the GPS already) through north GA. If the Bushtec pickup goes smoothly Friday morning I have to swing by the Chilhowee Gliderport in Benton TN to pickup something and should be in Huntsville by about 6pm. I'll sleep in till 7am Saturday (may get some breakfast with my cousin) before the donut run so I should be to the Zeiler Plantation around 8:30 if that's good with you.

See you Saturday.

My regrets

John,

I am not going to be able to come tomorrow. The trade-off for going back to Iron Horse next weekend for my birthday, is some things got added to the "honey-do" list for tomorrow.

For anyone else heading up to the tech session out of Atlanta, Doug and I will be departing about 6:15 am tomorrow morning. Meeting at the I-75 and Highway 92 exit north of Atlanta, Hardee's parking lot. Either reply to let us know you are meeting us, so you won't get left behind, or just be there. I don't need anything done to my LT just thought it would be enjoyable to get in a nice ride. So does anyone else want to join us?

May we never find the end of the road!

Thanks

John had a heck of a workout at his tech session and I appreciated it very much. I learned a lot and did not have to put the key in that gas cap all the way back to Mobile. Wayne was probably in overload from all the things that was thrown at him about the bike. I expect Doug will have his bike apart for the first time shortly. Perry needs to add something else to his bike, but I'm not sure what it might be.

The biggest thing I learned was to turn the ignition on and operate the brakes a few times before rolling down a steep slope backwards out of Johns garage. Thanks to John and Wayne I didn't drop the bike or smash Johns van. My heart rate is almost back to normal.

Thanks again to John and his wealth of knowledge. Nice meeting the rest of you fellows.

Information Overload

Guys,

I really enjoyed the event yesterday. It was great to put faces with the members. I didn't get to do everything that I had planed to. But, I now have the confidence to remove the tuppermare myself. John is very knowlegable about all things LT.

I will be changing my rear brakes today. and I may even do the HID install. I did notice a difference in the power and smoothness of my LT after the 24K service. Gas mileage was up fron 35 to 40 according to the BC.

Thanks again guys. Hope we can do this again sometime. If ya'll find yourself near Tuscaloosa, holler at me and we'll go for a ride.

I still can't get all the grease out from under my fingernails

Hey Steve, when you are ready for shocks let me know. I need a set myself.

Tom has told me where to get the shocks, but I will have to call him again because I have forgotten where to acquire the Wilburs or Ohlins,

Thanks Guys, (Mods it's time to remove the sticky)

I did have a lot of fun sharing my knowledge with you. This is how I got my start at one of John Rehder's Tech Sessions three years ago. It was great to meet you all and good to see Rick again. Here are a few pics:

Rick and Wayne discussing the finer points of KK consumption...
And finally Wayne was done and on the road.

Here is a shot of Rick's new Bushtec. Another as he prepared to leave. The van in the background was the one we almost hit rolling out of the garage "brakeless". (the look on Rick's face)

Thumbs up

John,

Thanks for the hospitality and insight into bleeding the brakes. I always thought that it was the one maintainance item that was best left to the dealer. The ride over and back was icing on the cake!

May we never find the end of the road!

Perry,

You are welcome. Actually what I did was FLUSH the brake fluid. Bleeding these things once air is in the system is a task that is better left to the dealer as he has the computer to cycle the system. There are just too many places for air to hide. The most important step in flushing is never let the reservoir go dry and let air in.

I really like that Ducati Design headlight - it looks great.

Missed this tech session

John,

Great to see you guys had a good time. Sorry I missed this one. It conflicted with the Dragon weekend where a couple of us already had rooms setup for awhile.

I will be heading toward Scottsboro soon for a couple of days though. I have relatives there I need to go see and promised that I would. Iffen I have time it would be great to take a ride over if you're around. Don't think you're too far away.

Keep the rubber down...

Michael,

It is just about an hour to Scottsboro from my place. I'm still a workin fool so I am only around in the evenings (after 5:30) and no big plans for the weekend. Your more than welcome to come by for a chat an visit, just let me know. I will be out of town next week.

Michael,

After reading you other posts else where, you should really try to make by the place. We can check out your brake light issue and HID ground and you can try out the Ottomans and Mick-O-Pegs I have on the bike.
