Bald River Falls Sat.

Saw a k1200 at Bald River falls yesterday and was wondering who it might have been. Looked as if they had a Trailer on the back and was parked at the falls. The wife and I just took a short ride up that way and was on the way home. I lve in madisonville Tenn. just about a half hour away from the falls.

Brian, It was me on my R1200GS and Al (Ranger6) with is LT and trailer, BTW, while at the falls we discovered Al's rear tire was separating.... I saw you about the time you passed.. .. we headed back to Cherohala Market to figure out our game plan... as it happened I had Destination Motorsports number in my cell....we call..they had the tire and we got there by 5Pm and they had us out at 6pm...

Any info on the make and miles of Al's tire?

Inquiring minds, and all that.

Hey Jay, I let Al answer about the mileage on tire, it was a Bridgestone (Rear) the tire wasn't showing any other wear, I would guess hadn't been on long...

From the outside view, it was a bulge on the outer edge near the sidewall...after the tire was pulled...it was about the size of a banana from the inside view.

Very hard knot, you couldn't push it in...not like that of an air pocket, so I am thinking that the plys separated...

Sounds just like the ones I had on a B'stone, 3 different times!

I'd be willing to bet it wasn't more than 12K miles, and probably more like 7K!

BTW, looks like Gilda is interested in Pisgah Inn, too. We plan to meet you folk there, or where ever you wind up going, and then stay for dinner at Ironhorse.

Iron Horse etc..........

Hey Brian---Is the Fairbank Motel booked for Wednesday the 25th? If not I wonder if I can book a room in the dungeon (with night light) and then head for the Iron Horse. You going to meet us at Bald River or come to the campground and ride with us there? Same with the Pisgah lunch. Hope your charming bride will join us...............My cabin is currently empty following the rally. I'm thinking of checking in and inviting Connie to fly up, rent a car and spend 5-6 days during the first part of Nov.

Question

Just curious, was it a "radial" or "bias" Bridgestone? On my second set of "bias" Bridgestones and have not heard of a separation on these yet. Had a conversation with the Bridgestone representative at this years MOA Rally. He stated that radials, in general, have a tendency to flatten out at speed, causing the sides to push outwards. This has caused rubbing on the swingarm in some situations and even tire ply separation. The "bias" tire, according to him, does not have this same characteristic. When I hear stories like this it makes me a little skeptical on what to believe.

May we never find the end of the road!

Hey Perry, Jay and Al both will be at the Pisgah Inn Lunch...if they don't get back with you about the Bridgestones on this thread, you have a chance to talk with them there...

Sorry I haven't picked up on this thread until now, guys. I put a new set of radials on right before heading to MOA, so by the time I ran into trouble with Don I would say, and Jay you're right, there was right at 5000 miles on them if that. Not a good commentary on radials for LT's, IMO. I have the bias on there now and will give them a shot. When I see you guys in a couple of weeks, I'll give you the skinny.
