Atlanta Traffic info needed

Hi Gang,

Am finalizing my route to CCR...

How is the traffic on 285 in Atlanta... Is this a good route to take from 75 to 285 to 85 to Braselton?

Or would I be better off taking 20 to Canton, Cumming, Buford then to Braselton..

Thanks for the input..

John

John, just take 285 East then 85 North from 75 South. OR

Highway 75 South to 285 East and then to 85 North; just a hop, skip and a jump to Braselton!

CCR Route

From the north,How bout Ga 53 at exit 312 off I75? Looks like a good road and I think it comes out at the Chateau Elan exit on 85.

285 can be bad depending on the time that you arrive. I would avoid it at rush hour if you can. If you are not in a hurry cut over across north Gerogia thru some senic roads and enjoy the ride.

I drive in Atlanta on a daily basis. You have a window of opportunity between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm if there's no wrecks or road work.

I agree with someone else who suggested taking a nice ride through thru North Ga mountains and avoid Atlanta if your time permits.

Thumbs up Hwy 53!

I second the vote for Hwy 53. I ride sections of this road all the time and there's no comparison to I285. 53 has a little of everything - scenic Lake Lanier, Appalacian foothill twisties...it's just a great road.

GA 53 will not drop you off at Chateau Elan. You will need to make a right turn on GA 211 approximately 5 miles after going under I-985. If you miss the GA 211 turn off, continue south on GA 53 to I-85 and go south one exit.

Wink Alternate route

I agree with most, 85 is not anything one would choose to ride. As for higway 53, I've ridden it before and have found it to be quite nice. As one has noted, you get a bit of everything, senic, some twisties, and basically just a nice road to ride. About the only place you will encounter some traffic is around Gainesville. As another has stated, it is not a direct drop off to Chateau Elan, follow his directions.

Yup,I double checked the map and saw where 211 cuts off of 53.We already have to negogiate Nashville and Chattanooga, don't want to do Atlanta too.In Sept. we do a run up to Maine for a week and in Oct. heading to Tucson. That should put some miles on the LT.
