Indirect Route Home Wanted

I already don't want to come home from CCR and I haven't left yet. After the reunion, my wife (Robin) and I want to do a loop through the south. On our way back we want to wander through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas before we head home to central NY. I've never ridden in these states, although I lived for a short time in cental Louisiana. . .forty-five years ago, and would love a list of interesting or smallish towns that would give us a flavor of the south. What we'd like most is a route along state roads that connects small towns or medium sized cities where we could bed down in the town center, walk to local eateries, and maybe hear some live music in a local watering hole before we meander along to the next stop. We figure to take 10-15 days for this. Got thoughts?

Wow you could get crazy with your idea, one route that I have ridden west from Valdosta GA is US Hwy 84. This can be ridden as far west as you want to go. It will give you small, medium and large cities.

I will be at CCR if you want to look me up and discuss it more. Wish I could offer to ride with you but we have to go to North Carolina after CCR.

Don's suggestions are great.

I left Rome GA on Sun morning and rode this route:

Left there and went through Mentone, AL. Nice montain views.

There are several great state parks in that area:

If you make it to NW Alabama:

From here, ride the Nachez through MS

Hi-Lighter Overtime

Great information all! Cities are circled, routes are marked. With all this it is clear that maybe we need to leave the bike down here, take the train home, and come back for the winter! As far as I can tell, we won't get out of Alabama.
