Motor Company on the move in San Antonio.

Coupla nites a year, the country club sponsors a day long poker run (run whatcha brung - cage; scoot; bus; skateboard!), followed by an evening of showing off whatcha got (cage; scoot), then din-din and a dance. Well, they hadn't been out in a long time, so Cheryl and I took the Goat and the T-Bird to the show-off thang. Nice leetle show, and the food wuz outstanding, along with dessert!!!

Anyway, we shared a table with the owner (co-owner maybe) of the Corpus Christi and Laredo, Tejas, Harley-Davidson dealerships. Got to talking about the two shops in the San Antonio area (one IN S.A., and the other out here on IH-10 near Boerne) and how he thought they were doing. Parking lot traffic is the only indicator that I see most of the time when I go by the Javelina shop out here, and it's so-so. He went on to say that he has approval (actually a request by) of the Motor Company to open another H-D dealership in San Antonio!!! I'm amazed - butt also know that The Company haz done their market research and are making the move based on positive results. They've already earmarked the shops location on the west side of town.

One doesn't see too many H-D dealerships closing up shop nowdayz. I don't recall the figures he mentioned, butt somethang along the lines of 6 or 8 H-D shops in the Houston metro area, and a dozen or so in the DFW and surrounding area. Sooo - maybe San Antonio can generate enough H-D bidness to support a third shop?

At any rate, got an invite to the grand opening and a grin and a nod to ride in on Toad --- I'm a snob!!!

Howdy, Dick!

I think the HD target audience is the "fiscally stable" adults.

With the West side of SA seeking to become a "retirement community" (and the West of Austin, too....), and with folks seeming to enjoy the "local" dealer experience, this may be helpful to the MOCO survival. If I'm right, at least it's a move toward "customer service"... that can't hurt.
