Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

harleydog - I did the LT thing first as well. My first BMW was a '97 RT and while it was a great bike is was just not a fit for me. So I traded it for a new '02 R1150GS that I love and may never sell! But my 2nd bike was a Valkyrie and while a wonderful bike it had a few nits that I could not get past and I always wanted a LT. So I sold the Valk and bought a beautiful '05 K1200LT. The LT was a wonderful motorcycle but the '05 changes resulted in a bike that was not a good fit for someone 6'3' ... at least it was not for me. I did love the motorcycle though ... lots of power at 116 HP it could run at 90 MPH and pass anyone without a wimper. The sound system was great and the luggage with top box was awesome. The power center stand was also something I loved. Never found it to be top heavy but again at 6'3" that was never an issue. But it just did not seem like the bike for me and it really needed to be run on long expanses of interstate and backroads. I did think the LT handled really well for a big bike and I could slink through any parking lot without issue and keep up with my buddy on his 1800 Wing on the mountain roads. So I sold the LT and was not sure what next. I really wanted to stick with BMW as I love the BMW dealer service and experience. So I began to look into the R1200RT. I found a pristine sample loaded up with only 8000 miles on it. So off to FL to pick it up. While I thought I woudl like the Rt I never thought I love it as much as I do. BMW has taken the old RT that was a great bike and made it nearly perfect! Man does it like to roll up the miles and in total comfort. So my GS has a new stable mate in the RT and for now I am a really happy camper! Oh yeah and one thing I also loved about the LT was the ease of cleaning !! I am a perfectionist and very anal so being able to detail my bike in 30 minutes is a big plus. Harley's are nice but all that chrome and stuff to clean is not for me. Been there done that with my Royal Star and Valkyrie. I don't mind not seeing he motor either. But again .... all personal choices. All great bikes!

Renegade .... that looks just like my first BMW ... a 1997 R1100RT. It was really a pretty bike and so well designed. That is the only bike I could ride in light rain and not get wet!

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

Here's an update on my "Sandy" since I got the top box painted to match and added the pinstripes and some GS mirrors . I think now it seems a bit more "all of a piece" than it did with the one black bag.

Next I got do something about the rear fender final, it is really lame. I don't want to just cut it off but gotta do something .

Anway here she is all ablaze in the fall color at the house.

No matter where you go , there you are.

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

I too had a VFR800A ( 2005 ) that I rode to Baja Penisula and South Africa. I have traded it in for a R1200RT ( 2008 Low model ), and thoroughly enjoying the new ride.

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

HI all,

I cannot find the speaker wire diagram for my 2004 1150 rt-p

i got a small amp to hook up my ipod and sat radio,
but since the CHP removed everything i cannot find the wires to connect the speakers.

What kind of speakers are they?
just tweeters?
or full range?

my amp is 2 channel with mp3 rca hook ups.

thanks''

Here's my new 2008 model. Haven't ridden it yet due to weather. I'm hoping tomorrow will be the day.

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

Hi Everyone - this is a Most Awesome Site!

I have been looking for a bike that would be similar to my 02SubaruWRX, which after 141,000 trouble free miles I still to this day look forward to getting behind the wheel.

It only made sense for me to look for another Boxer and found it in my 08R1200RT!

Picked it up last Thursday and have put a little over 1,100 miles on it so far!

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

My new bike has arrived, just drove her home.
Nothing special really (among RT's that is ) except perhaps for the
rather unusual combination of silver color and light sides. I opted for
this combination because I hope it will show less dirt
PS: the chimneys seen in the last picture do not belong to the bike

Congrats!
I like the color scheme. The only thing you need to change is to get some blue (or brown, if stainless) on those pipes

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

Blue it will be!
You are right, the pictures are taken when the bike was still almost in virginal condition.
This won't change drastically since I only use it to drive to work and that's not even
20Km from my home
If the pipes won't become blue I can always try to let the engine run idle for a while
Now that I have the bike, I also find the all silver look quite good, less wow factor than
a light/dark combination but more timeless.

Re: Welcome - Show your scoots...

Hi, forum newbie here.
The picture is from the bike's maiden voyage to Glacier Nat'l Park July last year. I bought the R1200RT in May, the trip was in July. Last bike I had was a Suzuki 650 which I sold back in the early 90's. Its good to be back in the saddle again.

Yes, I got them at a marine shop in town they are mostly sold for submarines, but the
weather can be really here in Belgium, so as a matter of precaution.....
To be honest, I only noticed this option after taking the pictures, I didn't know they were so prominent
In the mean time, I replaced the panier covers, I like it when the front of the bike is the widest and I don't
need the space anyway (only drive to work). I will post a picture, looks a lot more elegant to me.

RT on a diet!

Not as much in weight as in volume
I decided to narrow down the rear end of my RT, I only commute with it and I don't like it when the rear is wider than the front.
These slim covers seem like a good alternative, makes the RT look more elegant (though less imposing)
