Oil Drain plug

Is the oil drain plug the same size on a R1250Rt as on 2007 R1200RT?

Daniel

If you can park it, and not turn around to admire it before walking away, you bought the wrong one.

No.
the 2007 had an M16 x 1.5 drain plug.
the 1250 has an M20 x 1.5 drain plug.

Yes

I just bought a new Alpine White R1250RT

I'm now looking at what's transferable from my 07.

I have a dimple magnetic oil drain plug on my 07 that I hoped was transferable.

I think the following things are transferable:

  • Suburban Machinery Lowering peg kit
  • Handlebar mirrors (K200RS) - will need to get mounting brackets
  • License plate double Helmet locks
  • SAE Pig Tail
  • COAX Pig Tail
  • Bar end weights
  • Ilium Works Shifter extenders
  • Top case (Needs to be repainted)

Daniel

Re: Oil Drain plug

Congratulations Dan! It will be a very nice jump from your '07.

I'll be ordering mine near the end of next month, so that I will have it ready to ride in spring.

Re: Oil Drain plug

The dealer will keep the bike until I'm ready to pick it up in March or April depending on the weather.
They offered to deliver it to my place but I don't have room for two bikes and two cars in my garage

I also realized that I will have to get my top case re-keyed.
I won't have the key anymore after I sell the 07

Re: Oil Drain plug

Dan, then you had better get that lock barrel out of your topcase before you sell the bike! You can use the old lock barrel, configured to your new key, by rearranging the tumblers. Chances are that you will be missing one or two for perfect match, but your dealer should be able to provide you with the ones that you need for no charge, if his service people keeps the extras when they set up for their customers. I am unfortunate in that I did something really stupid (we won't go there!!) and ended up having to drill out the lock, and so I will have to buy a new set of lock barrel. If you don't have any luck with getting the tumblers that you might need, just PM me, and I can let you have the extras that I have left from the last install.

Thanks

I thought about that. I'm trying to remove the lock cylinder.
I found a video on youtube on how to do it (
) I'll give it a try and take it from there.
I might end up asking the dealer to do it

Thanks again for the offer

Daniel
