Re: Painted Top Case

If anyone know the paint code for the Planet Blue metallic, I would appreciate the information! So far, I have had no luck searching online. I need to have my topcase repainted from the San Marino Blue metallic to the new color. Failing that, I am going to have to talk to my painter guy to see if he can physically match the color, when I get my new 1250. I simply refuse to pay almost $700 to BMW for a painted replacement shell!

Just me but while I really like the color matched 49 liter (covering up that ugly silver) I prefer the 28 liter in its original black pebble finish. I think it looks great with some of the lighter colors since the bikes have a lot of black trim and also one less painted finish to worry about scratching. But hey as they say YMMV :-)

I agree completely. I have been thinking of getting one. Keep looking for a used one I can re-key to match my other locks.

Mine had a Givi Maxia with the brake lights on it when I bought. I took it off and it's been sitting in my garage since. If anyone is interested in it, it's certainly for sale, along with the back rack plate it mounts to, and 3 keys. I even have a BMW waiting tail, still in the bag. If interested, message me. I should probably take some pictures and list it.

Edit: I just posted pictures of my case I am selling in the Accessories, Gadgets and Gear section - Luggage forum here:

Re: Painted Top Case

I like the way the 28 liter top box looks on the bike better than the 49 liter. The large one gets used for long trips , the small one for every day use and short trips. I prefer painting the top case as it looks more finished in my opinion. No right or wrong answer here. Variety is the spice of life.

Re: Painted Top Case

If any of you guys are looking for a new topcase, then you should take a good look at Shad. Initially, I thought that I was going to get the Shad expandable topcase to use instead of my large BMW powered topcase, but the deal breaker, for me, was the fact that the Shad box do not, and cannot have an aux. rear LED up high. Those high rear LED is the main reason why I always ride with a topcase! Otherwise, I think that Shad makes some great looking products.

The 28L cases come up for sale quite frequently. Keep a watch on the MOA Marketplace site and the advrider flea market. That is where I got mine. Usually priced between $250 and $350.

My experience is that you will find that the mixing formula for BMW colors are unavailable. You'll need to have your body shop match the color.

Not exactly so! Some are available, but others are impossible to find. For an example, I had found the paint code for my '15 RT San Marino Blue right off the bat, even before I had taken delivery of the bike in late 2014. That paint code is B51, and my painter used it to paint the "shell" of my topcase to perfection, BEFORE I even had the bike!

I will be placing my order for the 2020 1250RT in February (for spring delivery), and the only color codes that I have been able to find, for that model year, was just the Alpine White and the Red (forgot the name).

I have had good luck ordering paint here!

Find the color match better than color-rite ... at least for my Platinum Bronze Met. RT

I got my 2014's paint her, and it's a spot on match, and blended perfectly after clear coat was applied.
