Annual Glacier National Park message

June 15 will be the earliest day for opening of the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier. Plows are getting close to the summit. Some road constructtion will be ongoing during the summer, but travel through the construction zones will be easier as most of the work is in the valley botom east of Avalanche. See you at Logan Pass!

Re: Annual Glacier National Park message

Darned cold weather has forced a delay. Crews had to plow through avalanches to get out a few days ago....we are ready for SUN

Opening of the road across Logan Pass will be delayed until likely Monday to Wednesday of next week June 18-20.

Re: Annual Glacier National Park message

Lot of rain here last night, and some rock coming down with it....waterfalls everywhere on the the GTTSR right now.

Plan is to open Tuesday morning 6/19, or Wednesday 6/20, so you will be okay!

Re: Annual Glacier National Park message

It is OPEN for 2012!

We opened Wednesday at 1200, although it was only 37 degrees at the top! Getting back to normal temps now, go come ride to the Sun.

There is some ongoing road reconstruction to be noted. Up to 30 minute delays (max), and a up to a couple of miles of packed gravel during the project, that should be done in the next few years. The sections that are done are great for cruisin....

See you in Glacier.

Re: Annual Glacier National Park message

Gary,
It was closed when I got there a couple of weeks ago. Did the East 15 miles then went to the other side and did the West 15 miles. Only missing 20 miles. Oh well, another time. Beartooth Pass was closed also. Back home after 27 days on the road.

Wink Re: Annual Glacier National Park message

Sorry about that....bet you were wet when here?

It was officially the wettest June in history here. Not good to be up on Logan Pass when the rain was that hard. The day or two before we opened there was a LOT of rock washing down too. Would have been bowling for cyclists if it had opened.

Pretty nice now though....sorry you missed out.
