Want to add my own armor!

I have not been happy with any of the knee armor in any of the pants or suits I have. I feel it would be fine if some how you land directly on your knee cap but I figure if I go down I'm landing on the sides of my leg/knees. If you compare the stuff in racing suits to the street stuff there is no real protection.
So, has anyone changed their pads in thier pants / elbows? What would be easiest way, I don't plan on sewing thru the hard plastic or thick padding. I know aerostich velcros their stuff in but I have an Olympia suit and I guess I could sew Velcro on and then stick to pads.
Any ideas? Being a hockey player, I am use to a little more protection and the off road stuff is a lot better than stock street stuff.

Re: Want to add my pun armor!

I have a set of Olympia duds as well and can't get the knee pads to conform to sit squarely on my knees. Been looking at knee pads when it dawned on me to try my skateboard knee pads that served me well when snowboarding.

Vanson sells the hard plastic inserts which I believe are similar in size to my CE in the jacket. I'm going to start with the spine protector and work my way around the jacket this spring.
