Question Sena SMH10 speakers in C3 and N103 Helmets

To those who installed the Sena SMH10 in either the Schuberth C3 or Nolan N103:
Did you remove some on the helmet material to make room for the speakers, or did just just "pack" some of it, or...?
After riding a while with our setup our ears start to ache from the pressure.
I'd like to know what works from those with experience before hacking at our new helmets.
