Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

This is from a ride several weeks ago. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have been riding recently in the rain and noticed that my helmet is leaking. I am very concerned about the communicator being electronic and possible water damage, in addition to the discomfort of a wet helmet.

The bottom side liner also seems to get wet.

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

During a torrential downpour I did feel a couple drops on my face - nothing more. I can't recall if the vents were closed.

I too have comms in my helmet, but the volume of water didn't bother me. Did you close the vents?

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

No, the vents were open. I was just surprised that the collar was so wet. It almost seemed like it was dripping down and then soaking the collar. That made me concerned about the electronics.

If I can't keep the vent open while it is raining, it might defeat the purpose of the vents. Shouldn't that help to prevent fogging?

I think my vents were also open. Even if closed, you won't get fogging, because of the anti-fog dual pane visor.

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

I rode for 6 hours in a MAJOR downpour on Saturday. The helmet did not leak, bone dry when I got home. What I have felt is if you don't close the visor with the 2 clicks, then you do feel some droplets in your face.

Also, this helmet lets water into my neck with my Streetguard 3 jacket, whcic my Nolan did not do. It wasn't good.

It might have been around the visor!

Wondered why my neck got so wet. The collar around the helmet got pretty wet too.

Mine does the same...figured water does run downhill...does everything else quite wonderfully.

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

I always close the vents in the rain. Only once did I get a few small drops inside the helmet. The neck roll might be getting wet from water being blow up against the bottom of the helmet.

Just did a review of the helmet in my blog if interested.

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

I really do like just about every feature of the helmet, except that the neck roll does seem to get wet in a hard rain and takes a while to dry out. I can deal with a little water, just hoping that it does not cause a problem to a $400 electronics package.

Most of my rides are around an hour or so and running out of power for the Bluetooth is not a problem. I wonder how those who do the 12+ hour rides keep it powered up?

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

Dan,

I have been in many torrential downpours (once for 4 hours straight) since I got my C3 and have never had the collar (SRC) get wet.

I wonder if the o-ring you have could be the cause?

I would guess that the o-ring opens up the space and allows for water to flow in.

Just my .02 thoughts.

Paul

Thanks for the suggestion Paul.

I getting ready to head out and I'll look. What O-Ring are you talking about?

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

I was wondering if you found the leak yet?

The o-ring I mentioned was the one that you installed that keeps your shield open in the wind?

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

I've been in a few light showers since then, but nothing like the downpour that seemed to get inside the helmet. It might have blown in the vents (I think they were open) and the wet collar might have been caused by all of the water running around my neck.

I don't think that the O-Rings that I placed on the sides of the visor could have anything to do with water getting inside the helmet. There were no leaks around the visor. They just apply a slight amount of pressure to help hold up the vent when riding with it open in the first or second notches.. It's still a great helmet and the audio is much better than what i had with previous helmets.

It's nice to be riding after the grouper attack!

I have Shark Evoline ll helmet I had to ride two days in the leftovers of hurricane Isaac, hours of down pour hardly could see many times. All was dry on me except my collar area of the helmet which was really wet and my vents were closed as well. So reading most of the post I think it is inherent in most helmets, what do you think.

Re: Schubreth C-3 gets wet in the rain

Dan, I wonder if what you are experiencing may just be the difference between the protection offered by the LT vs. the K1600.
I am installing a Sena BT system in my C3 and I hope water leakage won't be a problem.

It could be. I did a few all day rides in the rain with my LT ( Nolan 102 helmet) and don't remember getting the collar of the helmet wet. There is more wind on the GTL
