Need boots resoled? Try Dave Page, Cobbler

I have a pair of ridiculously expensive Vendramini Marathon Steel boots that I love. One bad thing about them is that the soles are fairly thin, and they finally needed to be replaced. My local shoe repair shop said he could not do it.

I had heard about Dave Page (http://www.davepagecobbler.com/) on other bike forums so I gave him a try. He did a really terrific job. My original soles were maybe 1/16" thick. The new soles are Vibram and a minimum of 3/8" thick. They also grip the ground much better than the original soles (like my bike's new PR3's!). This added grip makes it easier to back up the bike while sitting on it.

I recommend you give him a try before you toss your old boots out.

ps.
Despite the name, he is not a small one man shop. He's got a decent sized operation going. He specializes in mountaineering boots.

I'm lucky in Tampa to have a similar service just a few miles from my home at a local mall. I had the same soles put on my recently worn out pair of BMW boots and they are better than new.

It's nice to get 2-3 times the wear and not have to throw out an old friend.

As I understand it, many modern boots have the soles molded onto the upper and are not repairable. At least that's what I was told by two local old time shoe makers. If this is not the case I sure would like to know 'cause I sure hate throwing away a great pair of comfortable boots because they can't be re-soled.

This is not the case. There are a few boot shops around like the one mentioned above that can fix you right up. Try www.resole.com/motorcycle-boot-repair.aspx
or Dave Page from this thread.

Lynn,

If you aren't in a hurry, next time you drive to Tampa go by the University Mall on Fowler Ave., 5 miles from I-75 to the west. Shoe place is inside the entrance and they do great work.

or just call Dave the Cobbler. Bet he can tell you right over the phone..

Re: Need boots resoled? Try Dave Page, Cobbler

Dave worked on my BMW Pro Touring boots to give me a bit of a "lift" so that I could come to a stop on my RT and actually get both "enhanced" feet flat on the ground. The work his guys did was not satisfactory initially, but Dave corrected the problem at no additional charge. Have dealt with him over the years with hiking boots, and have never been disappointed. Dave can be a little prickly, but he does good work and best of all, he stands behind it.
