Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Anyone mount a SHAD SH50 top case on their BMW K or R and have pictures? I just picked up my new R1200RT and am considering my options for a top case. The $921.00 for the BMW version is steep. Love to see any pictures if you got them and what your recommendations might be. Thanks.

I've got the Shad on my Ostra Grey RT and I think the silver case looks fine. You have to purchase the custom mounting hardware that mounts and secures the Shad bracket flawlessly. The case easily holds 2 FF helmets or a full PC bag. Goes on and off the bike in seconds and I feel that it's more secure than the OEM case. I only keep mine on for 2-up riding or when on a road trip. Fit and function are great for about 1/3 the cost of the OEM. The downside, you have to carry another key on your key chain.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Thanks for the pictures and the case history. I went ahead and ordered my case with the mounting hardware. It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I order the gloss Sterling Gray version since I have a new tri-color RT. Someone on ADV Rider sent me a picture of the sterling gray color top case on the same bike as mine and it looked perfect. So I am excited to get it mounted and use it.

I agree with you Trav.... for a third of the costs, and the fact that it looks mighty fine, why would I spend over $1100.00 on an OEM top case when I can use that money to buy other goodies for my oh so fine ride.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Well my new Shad 50 case arrive yesterday and I couldn't get home fast enough to mount it on my bike. The case is gorgeous and definitely high quality materials and workmanship. Everything about the case is perfect, the fit, the operation and of course the look.

I order the special mounting plate for the RT and everything arrive with the case. All of the parts and instructions were great and it took about 30 minutes to put everything together and mount to the bike. The plate and case mount securely to the bike and I have no worries. The case slides on and off the mounting bracket with ease. I will post some pictures here this afternoon.

All in all a great purchase.

Congrats on the Shad, I've been really pleased with mine. I had a Givi on my Strom and I feel the form and function on the Shad is much better. BTW, my wife like the back pad as well.

Did you use the standard Shad mount that came with the case, or did you order the BMW RT specific mount?

Get the RT specific mounting bracket. The supplied plates fit the underside of the RT rack perfectly and make the SHAD mount rock solid.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

It appears the Shad SH50 sits back further from the passengers pillow then the BMW 49lt, is this the case or is it just an illusion?

Anyone had a passenger and have any feedback from them on comfort of backrest and it's position?

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

I've never had an OEM case but by the looks of my SHAD mount, it does sit about 2" further back. My passenger has limited experience but no complaints and we both have plenty of room to move around. However, she does say that my Burgman 650 Exec was still the most comfortable for her.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

How long did it take to get your SH50 after you ordered it? I have been waiting almost 6 weeks and still haven't gotten a tracking number. Every time I call Shad USA they tell me 2 more weeks. It's cold and raining here now so I guess it's not a big deal but I need a reason to hang out in the garage and get the RT dialed in for warmer, dryer weather.

When I ordered mine last year they were in short supply as well but I think I only waited a couple of weeks. Ordered mine from these guys, I believe that they do a fair volume with Shad so not sure if that helps.

Yeah that's the same place I ordered mine from. Very nice people and it's not their fault. I guess they ship straight from Shad USA and the customer service at Cli-max has been great. They did tell me they have had problems with availability from Shad in the past. But I did hear Shad expects their shipment from Spain any day now-let's hope.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

OK. I finally got my SH50 on December 21 that I ordered on October 20. Let me first say that this case is NICE! although Shad USA shipped me the wrong color (titanium not silver). I bought it through Cli-Max and they were great, but just like me they were held hostage by the US importer Shad USA. The fine people at Cli-Max did however have a silver shell in stock and shipped it to me very quickly and all is great now. If any one is planning on ordering one of these I highly recommend checking inventory before clicking the checkout button. In short this is a great case and IMHO much nicer than Givi but factory support on this side of the pond could use massive improvement.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Since this thread was resurrected, I want to put a recommendation to buy Shad cases from Adventure Moto USA . Call and speak to Claudio. I've purchased 2 cases from him and the service was excellent.

No vested interest, just a very satisfied customer.

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Ordered an SHAD SH50 and it took two months to arrive!! The "online" dealer - Adventure Moto keep telling me the distributor didn't have the product in stock and I found out the dealer never paid the supplier for my order so they couldn't ship it to me!! do not trust the dealers if they don't have the product on inventory, call SHAD directly!
I ordered the brake light from them and I received it in 2 days, they even offer me discount for all the trouble with their dealer! looks like dealers do not want to buy inventory of their cases and blame the distributor...Beware ordering online!!
I bought the brake light at www.shadonline.com, the 50 liters case is top notch quality!!

Re: Anyone have a SHAD SH50 Top Case?

Can anybody tell me how the SH50 compares against the BMW top case for passenger comfort? I've read on the forums that the BMW case provides great back support for the passenger. I believe that the SH50 comes with a back rest and was wondering how well the Shad supports the passengers back. Thanks.

This case looks very similar to the ones I've seen on the newer Concours. Does anyone know if this is the same model or brand?
