Noisy HJC Symax II

I got a great deal on a Symax II helmet and it fits me great and is very cool but also noisy. What can I do if anything to help? I tried the foam ear plugs and they killed all noise (radio, radar detector, and so forth). Can I do something to reduce the wind buffeting effect that won`t kill my hearing ability? May be some foam in the ear pockets of the helmet? Yes I know now a different helmet would be better but for now I have to make do with this one.

Re: Noisy HJC Symax II

I have that one, and yep it's noisy! However I have a Shoei Multitec now ONLY because it fits my long head much better. Actually the Shoei is at least as noisy.

If you ride a lot I would suggest dropping coin to get a pair of in-ear monitors custom fit. Mine are Westones and they have some that cost around $300. The electronic part is a stock piece but the ear plug part is custom fit. Check it here:

http://www.westone.com/content/117.html

And yes, the difference is AMAZING compared to the mushroom heads, and especially if you try to go cheap with the do-it-yourself kits that use crappy earbuds. You'll see the other fully molded ear pieces which run upwards of 800 to 1200 dollars, so $300 ain't that bad!

Re: Noisy HJC Symax II

I can't hear without my earplugs. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but the plugs block the white noise and at speed I find I hear my surroundings much better with plugs. Molded earplugs which plug into the sound system by far provide the best fidelity but also block the most environmental noise, ie approaching vehicles sirens etc.

YMMV

Re: Noisy HJC Symax II

I have a Symax II that I love! Except it is noisy as heck. I started using purple foamies that I got at a Safeway grocery store. They are a smaller diameter than most and I can actually roll them up and touch my eardrums when I insert them. A very odd feeling indeed! They completely block out all the nasty noise and I can hear the stereo MUCH better! Then only thing I miss is the beautiful sound of the LT exhaust!

When I get to where I'm going I can hear as well as I could when Igot on the bike and I find myself to be much more relaxed, less tired and less grouchy!

Re: Noisy HJC Symax II

Yeah the Symax II is noisy. I use orange ear plugs, that help somewhat. But recently I installed some IMC headset (another thread they mic doesn't work for the LT) but having the speakers mounted in the ear opening & playing some music has greatly reduced the wind noise & I have found at the end of the day I have no bad effects.

Re: Noisy HJC Symax II

Has anyone tried filling the ear pockets with some type of foam?

Sorry I should have mentioned it in my previous post...but I tried some white foam 1/2" thick used as packing material, but didn't find it helped that much. Maybe some denser foam might be of help!
