Cool Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I have been researching helmets for a week or two and have just ordered the replacement for my Jarrow Mono X2. I tried on a pre-mfg sample that the sales guy had at a dealership I frequent. I was called over to check it out for them. Here is what I found:

Nice looking, fits nicely with the pump-up like the 1000 to fit better, outer clear shield has friction action so it is infinitely adjustable, chin bar gives me more room inside than the Jarrow, internal tented shield has full on or off position and is a bit shorter that the Jarrow but I think low enough to not be a glare problem, XL fit me whereas the Jarrow was the only XXL I have ever needed, I hope the vents will work as good as they appear they should, it uses D rings instead of the clickit so I will have to adjust, colors will be gloss or flat black and a silver(I ordered), one-hand opening, chin dam, liner comes out easier than the Jarrow
Production should be starting soon with delivery to stores June-ish. I hope that means mid-July max. Cost is less than $300.
I also scored a hot Scorpion poster for my Man Cave.

Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I got the new EXO 900 Transformer helmet today. I will give it a good checkout before I slime it up on a ride. I'll give my impressions once I get it up to speed.

Red face Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I now have a few hundred miles on the new helmet. So far I have these observations:
1. The tinted internal shield could come down a bit lower. Some reflection from the dash could get to the eyes. My Jarrow/Caberg totally covers below direct sight line.
2. Fit in XL is tight. I hope it breaks in soon.
3. The chin bar comes off so easy I do not know if I ever need to take the clear shield off to clean. No tools needed for either the clear or tinted to remove.
4. Is it noisier than I am used to? Not sure about this. I will take both helmets out soon and try to see how it goes. I have not moved the intercom speakers yet.
5. I put a set of strap clips on it and like it much better than the D rings.
6. With the chin bar up I have not noticed my head being pulled back like the Schubert did.
7. I have not noticed any air movement inside with the vents open. It may be hotter than the Jarrow.
8. I'll be adding my eagle reflective decals and BMW rondel ASAP as this is a bare helmet. No stickers at all on it. Not even the mfg. name.
I am not dissatisfied with the purchase, so far.

Red face Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I finally had a 3 hr. ride and the helmet killed my forehead starting at 1:15 into the ride. I read where one of the members used an ice cream scoop to press in the foam in a helmet so I did that last night. Not sure when I will be able to do a 1:15+ ride to test it out.

Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I purchased a Scorpion EXO 700 "Neon" hi viz yellow about 9 months ago and my initial impression was good. It seems well built and venting is very good, and you can see it from outer space. The only issue I have is the fitment of the shield against the rubber gasket above the forehead. It doesn't fit tight enough and when it rains, the water just drips right down the inside of the shield. This in turn diminishes the effectiveness of the anti fog properties of the shield. In fact, the fogging was so bad I had to crack the shield to be able to see. Not a good option when riding in the rain...

I contacted Scorpion and they advised how to tighten the shield to eleviate this problem. It's effects are minimal. Maybe I should try it again..

As far as the EXO 900, I'm glad to see them finally produce a modular but I'll hold off until I see them in solid white or "neon" hi viz, and they fix some of the issues indicated in this posting. Right now, my HJC Symax II is my choice for a modular.

Red face Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

Brian,
As far as rain getting past the weather strip I have not been able to ride with a closed shield in rain, with any of my helmets, due to the fogging. Anti-fog does not work for me so I always have a gap at the bottom and that causes a gap at the top.
The ice cream scoop did not work so now I am going to try something else. I did notice that the inside shell is for the XL/XXL sizes. I am going the try the XXL liner since I have the XL now.
I must have one of those oblong heads vs. round.

Wink Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

If anyone cares:
I'm on to something now! There are no XXL liners or helmets available yet. I was told to use a ball-peen hammer to adjust the foam liner. That works great. I adjusted the forehead foam last night and will adjust the back of the head foam tonight. No discomfort at 1:15 of riding this morning.
With the helmet sitting a bit lower now the sight coverage of the tinted internal is about right.
I am starting to be very satisfied with this new helmet.

Not happy at all with this helmet. Look at the other thread about it.

Red face Re: Scorpion XO 900 helmet

I have received a new chin bar and have been told the red tab has been reinforced(see other EXO900 thread). I can not see that by looking at it but have to take their word on it. They are also sending me another part that includes the red tab so I can have it as a spare when I am on trips. I should be able to make the repair in about 15 min. if necessary.
I am going to move the speakers I installed so maybe it will be easier to hear the SO while at speed.
Beats buying another helmet at this time.
I still like the looks.
