Question Do you use a tank bag?

I have had tank bags on all my Beemers, R100RT, R1100RT, K1200GT, R65, and more, guess I got used to them. Even with the LT's prodigious storage capacity, sound and Nav system, I still find I miss the utility of a tank bag with map holder.

The tank bag to carry handy items such as camera & tri-pod, I-pod, water bottle, etc, more than will fit in the LT's small radio compartment. The map holder so I can quickly see the "big picture" to supplement the Nav II's directional ability.

I would appreciate suggestions as to what bags "work" best with the LT, especially photos, if available.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, unfortunately they're out of business... But if you're able to find ANY of their products, they're worth it! My tank bag is also a Chicane, the LT ex, and it's great!!

RKA mini-expandable. One for W's Spyder, too. They will even electrify it for you (weather-proofed) so you can have things charging, etc., for small extra cost.

I use a Chicane also...Love it. I hate to hear that they went out of business. I bought the rack bag as well. They had very nice stuff. Great quality.

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

This summer I didn't use my Chicane unless I was going on a multi-day ride. Just to work and back I don't find it useful, until yesterday. I attached it since it holds the heat controller... Gettin' cold all of a sudden. It's a permanent accessory for cold weather riding.

Absolutely!!! I have used a BMW bag since I bought my bike in '03. And always have a map of the are that I am in. This proved to be the best decision ever when my GPS went on the fritz in the middle of a trip.

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

I have a CorTech. It is absolutely wonderful. Much less $ than any of the others and exteremely functional. I keep sunglasses, garage door opener, paper pad, pens, chapstick, hand cream, etc in it. Would not ride without one.

Mine does not interfere with the radio either. It is a small one.

Cannot post picture since I have a Mac and picture will not upload.

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

Get down to your local Honda dealer. Ask if they can get you an ST1100 tank bag.
The biggest bag you can get on the K1200lt.
Seriously big, but in no way gets in the way. Still get to the radio and if you keep all the heavy bits in it, it really balances the rest of the overloaded bike out !!

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

I was looking for some more info on the bags that have been mentioned above. I just called Twin City BMW and they are out of the Chicane bag. So, I wanted to make sure that the Cortech bag mentioned above was the Mini. Or, if anyone is using another cortech bag that they liked I'd like to hear about it.

Also, I was looking at the RKA bags. They look really nice online, but I've never seen one in the flesh. Which model works "better" on the LT? All I want is a place to put a map, a SLR, an lens, and some snacks. As long as I can still use the stereo controls I'll be happy.

Thanks for the help,

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

++++ RKA

Call the owner and get the best selection for the LT

Then spend a few bucks more and get the bag color coordinated with your bike

Advantage of the RKA over many bags - map holder is rectangular!!

I am electrifying mine this summer to hold the GPS (376c)

Don't bother with the rain covers unless you live in the northwest

I know this is a somewhat old post, but which size did you get (8.5 or 11)? Do you still like it after having had it for a few months?

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

I "had" the smaller one and tended to fill it with things simply because the space was there. Finally decided that I really did not need it and sold it. I'm more or less back to the stock bike.

Since others may have similar questions, I'm posting here rather than via PM or phone. I have viewed your web site, but didn't find these anwers there, but maybe just didn't find the right paget. If the answers are too much to post, let me know and I'll call.

1. Can you see a Navigator III+ on the standard BMW stingray mount with the 6L bag in place? the 10L?

2. Can you access the radio buttons with the 6L bag? the 10L?

3. The corona mount looks like a bayonet style mount (twist and lock). Is that correct? Is it lockable?

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

I used a Chicane for years and either the 6L or 10L have the same 'footprint' on my bike as the Chicane.

My GPS is Ram mounted on the right handlebar so I can not be sure on your GPS question. I do not think the BMW factory mounted GPS would be blocked by either bag. The 6L is ' shorter' due to not having the extra storage under the hard lid on the bag. I am 6'2" so I see over either bag anyway. Shorter riders may see things differently.

The second link on my post (the pdf link) has pictures of both the 6L and 10L on my bike. A better set of pictures/explaination of the Corona mount can be found at http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/c...ountingOptions

Radio buttons are accessable with either 6L or 10L. Basically --they are the exact same bag with the only difference being the lid. The 10L is the clear hard lid and the 6L is a traditional soft map cover zipped onto a soft lid. (if that makes sense!).

The Corona ring is a twist and lock (magnets and 'bayonet'). There is no way to key/padlock/lock the bag onto the ring (we are working on that as an option for the next generation Corona ring).

Anybody that wants to look at both bags can buy both with 100% full refund for the one they do not like (obviously must be in new condition and you pay return shipping and get a pre-authorized return authorization number from RPW). Let me know!

Re: Do you use a tank bag?

I recently bought one of the Marsee bags from www.racerpartswholesale.com and absolutely love it! It is by far the most well made bag I have ever owned. I ordered the 10L. with the electrical kit also. I have not attatched it yet with the corona mount, since my bike is still in storage, but I was able to set it on the bike and it doesn't look like it will interfere with me seeing my gps on the factory mount above the radio controls. RPS was great to work with, and it arrived in just a few days. I was originally looking for a Chicane bag but I am glad I came across the Marsee!!

Good luck with whatever you go with!

I agree; I like to carry a map of the area where I can see whats up.........I do have to admit that I'm not all that impressed with the BMW model however.......Only really, one main compartment...and...It has a fairly cheesy stick on velcro that attaches to the stingray and the adhesive is not the best.........however for a quick and reliable fix to that, I use some weather strip adhesive............applied in a heated shop and let to set, it hasn't failed in quite some time.............and of course, since it says BMW and has those cool little roundels on it, $$$$$.............
