Where to buy Helmets in IL or WI

Does anyone know a good helmet retailer in Illinois or Wisconsin? I am looking for a modular/ flip up helmet and want to try one on before buying. I live in Northern Illinois but will drive a couple of hours for a place with a good selection. I am considering Nolan or Shoei.

Those are the exact two I narrowed it down to also. Went to Iron Pony in Columbus on Saturday and spent a good hour trying helmets and at least a half hour just comparing those two. Though I liked the Shoei, ended up with the Nolan for fit. I don't think you could go wrong with either but you must try it as you say.

Thanks for the feedback. I found another place in Lincolnwood called Chicago Cycles. They had a great selection and neither the Shoei nor the Nolan fit my head.

I have narrowed my search down my search to an Arai Vector or Profile. Any feedback on either of these helmets?

I had the same problem with Shoei helmet....

I currently have the Arai RX-7 and rode for many years with an Arai Quantum. I love them both, but the RX-7 is noticeably lighter and cooler in the summer months.

Re: Where to buy Helmets in IL or WI

My riding partner and I went with the Nolan N102 modular helmet. We got them from CIMA International, 1585 Beverly Ct, Aurora, IL. She liked the Black Graphite, and I liked the excellent hookup for the J&M Headsets. The J&M Elite Integrated Headset for the N102 N-Com with the high output Aeromike work perfectly with the BMW intercom on the LT. (You do need to order the driver's cable from BMW though. Its longer than any J&M cable, due to where the driver's plug is located under the handlebars. But I had those from my older helmet.) Neither the lids nor the headsets were what you call inexpensive, but they fit us and the sound quality is excellent. We ordered the J&M headsets from Sierra Electronics web site at a slim discount.

They are heavier that the Arai, but not a lot. Modular, flip-ups are the heaviest lids out there. The Nolan N102 has fairly good ventilation, and is pretty quiet.
