BMW Phase Change VS All Comers?

Greetings all,

Currently I use REI polypro-long johns, Draggin' Jeans and Frank Thomas Aqua Cover pants on the bottom and a variety of layers up top to stay warm during the CA winter. (Okay, you guys with REAL winters... fire at will) I was thinking about moving to a heavier weight base layer (i.e. BMW Phase Change, REI Expedition Weight, Patagonia Wool 4) so I can stay warmer with less layers and bulk. FWIW, I'm asking about all day warmth, not a ride that is shorter than the time it takes to suit up. I do have, and use, a Gerbings full heated jacket liner under my BMW 3-Phase jacket. Seems to work pretty well, but it isn't too long before I'm putting on the Rain Jacket to block the wind that leaks through the BMW fabric. Thanks.

Bruce

Layers.. good idea.. rain suits are good for blocking but also hold in humidity....... I run Widder electrics underneath the last layer... all "textiles".. to supplement when necessary...

I use BMW Phase Change shirt and pants under my 3-phase jacket and darien pants.......
Very good down to 32 degrees with a heated vest....................................
not so good for cooling but I've found nothing better for warmth....................
( because of the quick dry fabric, I also use the phase change kayaking)

Thanks for the feedback. The Phase Change costs about the same as the top of the line Patagonia Wool 4 products. Now if I can just get over this cold and start riding again!
