SENA Helmet!

Check this out!!!

NOISE-CONTROL HELMET - Sena

It won't be cheap, but the best that technology can offer. I had been hoping that SENA would somehow integrate the noise-cancelling technology into their BT headset (so that I won't have to wear ear-plugs), and it seem that they have gone the whole nine yard!

EDIT: Also look at this:

Re: SENA Helmet!

Very cool! I like what is happening with helmet technology. Heads up display and rear view camera in the visor is here as well. Once all manufacturers on up to date hopefully the price of all this tech will come down a bit.

Re: SENA Helmet!

I've worn a Bose noise cancelling headset flying for years and always hoped someone would integrate this tech into a motorcycle helmet. This sounds very promising. It'll be interesting to see if there's any way to move around those big on ear speakers/pads to fit the individual. That'll be the biggest problem with this. Not having pressure points on the wearers ear in the wrong spots. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Hello, Jeff

This is the first question I need to ask each time, too!
What helmet are you using? I have an HJC but am interested in an open face, as well as something like the Sena with the bluetooth and noise-cancelling.

Yes. I am always amazed a helmet articles in all motorcycle magazines. They almost never list the sizes available for the helmets being reviewed. I have written to some of them asked that they do that -- to no effect. I guess they assume that all riders have "normal" size heads. Well, I do not. I need a XXXXL! Sometimes a mere XXXL works, but not always. If HJC did not offer some helmets for fat heads, I would not have a helmet and would not be a rider.

I have written to Sena about 4XL helmet availability. I assume the answer will be the oft-repeated "no".

Alas, it appears we bought the brand and 5X size although mine is black.

Yes, I take the brunt of ridicule that nothing will fit this head. We rode through Montana in the summer and ate at FatHead's. The guys in our group didn't have the heart to tell the owner that his head wasn't as big as my melon! What would he call his pub afterward?

The technology was initially developed for the noisy factory floor, and then it migrated to the consumer products. I had used the ones for the factory as well as the consumer ones, and like you, was hoping for somebody to do it for the helmets!

If you look at the video, you will see that this helmet utilizes ear cups and not pads! The ear cups goes around your ears, just like the one on the Bose. Makes sense, because that is the only sure fire way to seal out external noises.

Total estimated price is about $800 for the full options, but I would spend that for this helmet, assuming that it does work as advertised!

And provided it is available in XXXXL! No response yet to my email to Sena. I expect to receive "no".

Re: SENA Helmet!

The Schuberth Helmets advertise to be some of the quietest at around 84db, and the YouTube video on that new Sena Smart Helmet claims they are pushing for 65db. If they pull it off, I see one on my shopping list next year.
