Siletz, OR - one of the nicest little rides you've never heard of!

Attending MOA in Salem, Oregon, my friend Mel and I rode from Salem over toward the West coast today, and stumbled upon one of the most pleasant 1-hr rides I can remember. It would be equally nice either direction, but we went South to North.

It is Oregon Hwy229 from Toledo through Siletz and up to Lincoln City.

What makes this stretch so nice is not that it's the twistiest Tail-of-the-Dragon style road, and it's not the most scenic route around (although it is very nice), but rather the fact that it is just full of mid-gear, 30-50mph sweeping turns. By mid-gear I mean you can spend almost the entire time in 3-4th gear on a 5-gear bike like the LT, or 4-5th gear on a 6-gear bike like the K1600. The best adjectives are not things like "exciting" or "heart pounding," but rather words like"pleasant" and "satisfying" and "delightful." It's a great two-up ride, but I loved it riding solo, too!

If you're headed to the Oregon coast, whether as part of your CCR trip next month or some other trip, and/or don't want to fight the stop and go tourist traffic between Newport and Lincoln City, take this route. I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry!

Thanks! That's a GREAT little video, and very much conveys the "feel" of that road. Just imagine 45 minutes of nice, swoopy (that's a technical term) curves, and you've got it!
