Re: Bella Coola BC

Hey Eric, I haven't been there, but I did run into a fella in Hyder 2 yrs ago that said he thought the best thing in Bella Coola was the town sign. I tried looking on Google Earth but my connection in OZ isn't working too good to see, but it does look like some dirt roads on parts of Hwy 20, but that could be old info!

Re: Bella Coola BC

I am thinking there are about 40 miles of hard pack at the top of the hill thru tweedsmuir park.
It has been about 30 years since I was last there..
I want to do a trip, Edmonton, Prince George, Hyder, OPrince Rupert, ferry to Bella Bella, Ferry to Bella coola, Williams Lake, Horsefly, Kamploops, back home.

How is the down under?

Re: Bella Coola BC

It has been wet for most of the time I have been in Sydney, from Friday 13th, & it's coming down heavy as I speak. My younger Bro passed away last Friday & I'm hear till Feb 20th.
Hope to get to see some Old friends over the next few weeks.

Your trip looks interesting, I tried again to look at Google Earth, but I guess they didn't drive into Bella Coola. I might be making the trip to Prince Rupert & ferry to Port Hardy with some of the guys from BGB.

Re: Bella Coola BC

I was there in '09. Took the 20 hour ferry ride from Port Hardy to Bella Coola. We were a bit concerned because of the weather but it turned out to be overcast and not raining. Because of that the 60-80 mile unpaved portion of "The Hill" was dry. It was a no brainer. Beautiful country and I'd do it again. We stopped in Tatla Lake for gas and lunch before we ended the day at Williams Lake. It was a beautiful ride. We were there in mid August. Before the snow and after the mosquitoes.

Re: Bella Coola BC

Hi Eric! 6 of us did the trip in 2009. One GSA, Gold Wing, Voyager, Road King and two RT's. No LT's but three of the bikes in our posse would have been comparable in size and weight. The guys on the Wing and Voyager were 75 years old and they made it OK. The gravel is only about 60 Km and that section was actually in better shape then the previous ashphalt that had alot of potholes in it. The gravel was 6 to 8 inches deep going around some of the corners so you had to take your time but other than that no problem. The hill is hardpack and would only be dangerous if there was alot of rain. Take the trip, you won't regret it. The scenery was great and the ferry ride to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island was spectacular.

Re: Bella Coola BC

I know I wont regret it.
I remember when the road was gravel from Williams Lake all the way to Bella Coola.
I want to come down from the top, Prince Rupert.
I grew up on the Island so am very familiar with all its roads and scenery.
I worked on the high school in Hagensburg.
And have some very wild stories from that time.

Re: Bella Coola BC

Are you going Rupert - Port Hardy - Port Hardy- Bella Coola or is there a ferry that directly connects Rupert to Bella Coola?
