Ride across Canada

Hi Guys, Obviously as you can see I am from the UK and on my retirement next August (65) I intend to treat myself before my riding days are over to something to remember.
This is where you guys come in!!.. A ride across Canada is what I am looking at ( no disrespect to our American friends ) and as such would appreciate any feedback & any photo's of where to start, where to finish and what to see. I would be hiring hopefully a 1200RT as the cost of shipping my RT over would be better used on the road trip. I would be planning for Sept/Oct but if you guys think it would be better to wait until the following year that is what I will do.
So it's over to you!!,, with thanks. Steve UK.

Re: Ride across Canada

I would start in PEI and ride to Vancouver ( did this in 1996).Took about 20 days with lots of stops!! I would consider doing this early Sept because depending on where you start (Maritimes) it getting time for the leaves to change and the temp will be getting lower. Nice riding from PEI to Ontario, then it starts getting flat and long between any towns.

Have fun and stop often!! Beautiful country to see and its LARGE!!!
Remember we run in Kilo;s and liters for gas!! and its now 1.35 per liter regular!! should be around 1.60 for super in 2012.

Get some info from the province sites on the web, there free!!

Regards,
Bowdon

Re: Ride across Canada

I went across Canada (northern most TransCanada Highway) at the end of August.

Give us some details like...
  1. Where will you start?
  2. How many days do you have available?
  3. Will you motel or camp?
  4. Where will you end?
  5. What are you looking to see?
  6. Will there be a pillion?
  7. Alone or group?

Re: Ride across Canada

OK, I'm not Canadian (I just wish I were) but I do live nearby, so take my comments for what they are worth.

If it were me, I would want to know when the foliage in eastern Canada was typically in its glory, figure out the days of travel from BC, and pick that as my start date from Vancouver. I would be nervous about early snow, so I might want to wait a year, start earlier and take more time crossing the country, so that by the time snow was a risk, I would already be near to the end of the trip.

Sounds like a fantastic ride. One disadvantage to riding west to east is that you would never be "riding off into the sunset", but you can't have it all!
