Beartooth Pass or Chief Joseph By way

If you only have time for one - which one? Coming down to Yellowstone from Billings. Almost looks like a draw on scenery.

Beartooth is much higher and is pretty cool. But I enjoyed Chief Joseph much more. I felt the scenery was better and it has great sweepers mile after mile......

Re: Beartooth Pass or Chief Joseph By way

If you have time, take the Beartooth to the Chief Joseph intersection, then go out to Cody and enter Yellowstone thru the East Entrance. Perhaps this would add 3 hours to your time into Yellowstone. You will have experienced both roads and the scenery. If you have limited time, the The Beartooth Highway has been called "the most beautiful drive in America," You would not want to be this close and miss a chance to enjoy this drive. We go at least once a year and are always amazed.

Both are awesome, can't go wrong with either. Beartooth can get a little more congested being more popular depending on when you go I guess. We're planing on going to Redlodge and taking Bearthooth on the way to CCR.

Just Go

Re: Beartooth Pass or Chief Joseph By way

On my way home from Yellowstone...I enjoyed beartooth much better than Chief Joseph for several reasons; first, the scenery has no double and second, some smart DOT worker used tar to seal seven miles of the Chief Joseph highway. The tar snakes are big and fat...you can't lean into the turns at all. My bike felt squirrelly through the whole seven mile stretch.

I have attached a couple pictures to wet your whistle...

John,
The Bear Tooth Scenic Parkway is simply magnificent! I felt soooo small when climbing to the top and it was simply incredible watching the tree line changes. Chief Joseph would be my second choice.

Thanks Bruce,

I plugged that in to the Mapsource and it looks like we have a winner. I get both roads and the geysers. We were going to make a big loop in Yellowstone but not sure sure that was worth giving up one of the hiways. I only really care about the geyser basin anyway.

Yep! Got your route and looks like we get to kill two birds (or should I say carve some curves) on both the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Looking forward to the trip myself, if'n the event you see an '03 Anthracite go blowing by it is because I will be taking videos and pics, and stretching our legs

A side note here (and off the subject matter) ; I just purchased the car dock/mount for the Droid X from Verizon, how did you safely secure the suction cup to the Stingray (remember mine is the '03)? I would hate to have it fall off Did you take the included mounting disk with adhesive on the back and stick it to the stingray?

Re: Beartooth Pass or Chief Joseph By way

I actually had it working for a few days on just the sting ray but it started falling off when I got to NM. I ended up getting a small picture frame (for the glass) and glued the glass to the stingray with silicon seal. If I had the black disc with me I would have used that. Oh and I picked up some clear 0.012 vinyl and have made a rain cover that fits the Droid X in the dock and it sticks to the screen and you can still use the screen though it. I'll make you one as well. 26 days to go!!

Re: Beartooth Pass or Chief Joseph By way

25 days, but who's counting

I guess I'll just use the black disc with the adhesive and attach it to the stingray; and thanks for the rain cover!
