1st Videos w/Air Pro 2

OK, so this is the first time I've used a helmet cam. No editing, no music just the Alps in July, 2-up on an R1200RT.

The first :
This is part of the Tour de France bike race. Although Linda & I are riding down the mountain, the racers would be peddling UP the mountain. You can see the graffiti urging them on! This part of the race was a couple of days after we rode!

At the end, I passed a number of newbie riders who were being led by a bearded gent on an old Harley who waited at an intersection in the valley below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hyRrMnwTDQ

The 2nd was a moderate speed run with some traffic from a pass in Switzerland.

That's great footage Paul.
Thanks for sharing.
The quality is really good.
Interesting with a helmet mounted cam watching where the head goes.
Does that setup have a plug for an external mic ?
edit 1.( Yes it does, Just looked up the specs. )
edit 2. ( Hey that's a really neat bit of kit. Think the action cam has come of age. Many thanks for the heads up. )

Cheers.

Re: 1st Videos w/Air Pro 2

Thanks for all the comments.
I have Stelvio Pass up & down but the footage is 20 minutes each way. Probably too long for YouTube. After a while all the switchbacks look the same.
A bit of history . . . most of these passes were originally gravel and were designed as military roads. The incline was determined by the ability of team of horses to pull wagons and artillery pieces up the mountain.

We rode over 30 passes on this trip and there is a monument [Timmelsjoch-hochalpenstrasse] where a ceremony was held between Hitler and Mussolini connecting Austria and Italy.

Prior to paving . . .

Startling views
Lots of hairpin curves. You seem to get acclimated pretty quickly. In the 1st video what was the altitude you were descending from? Both nice video.

Bill, it's hard to say which altitude. We were just under the snow line on the 1st video (July) but were higher at other locations such as 9,087' at this pass.

This one was about the same @9,101'. No issues that I recall in respiration

However @ 3,842 m (12,604') is was difficult to breathe due to the lack of oxygen.

We stepped into the VOID! http://www.compagniedumontblanc.co.uk/step-void-7366

We were not at Mt. Blanc but slightly below.

I have an altimeter (12,280') on my Casio watch and I placed it on a window ledge inside the the building after I read the sign.

Re: 1st Videos w/Air Pro 2

That's truly amazing.
My very concern. The height and the O2 content. At least there are signs to alert you. Also some parts of the road seem to narrow with no escape to your right.
Awesome experience and great pictures for a lifetime of memories.

Howard,
Not sure if it is an optical illusion due to the ultra wild angle of the camera but this is one of the "OMG remembered" narrow spots. Linda is a great pillion photographer for capturing these OS! moments.

Riding adventures aside, we were in Provence and enjoyed the burst of color from the fields of lavender. We visited the Perfume museum in Grasse and learned how these love potions were formulated.

At the end of the day we stayed in this castle that had a beautiful garden and a panorama view of the valley below. It is owned by a couple who spent over $1 million to restore the structure and gardens. The wife is an American who met her French husband while on a backpacking tour of Indonesia. We were even given a tour of the secret passages behind some of the great rooms.

Yes, there are spirits but they have been quiet since the completion of the renovation!
