Edmonton Intersection cameras

In Edmonton Alberta we have intersection cameras to not only catch people running red lights but also those that speed up to beat the yellow or red.

Three photos per intersection, one at the first crosswalk, one in the middle of the intersection and the third zoomed in on the plate at the opposite crosswalk.

Each photo half second apart.

So it takes one and a half seconds to cross a four lane intersection at 88KPH

Speed limit was 70

How do I know, you ask?

They are asking me to submit 113 dollars for three black and white photos.

One can clearly see the yellow light all the way thru.

Damm.

Re: Edmonton Intersection cameras

Gezz Mountainmama, Don't you know were all them thangs are by now.....that's a bummer though,,,I thought it was only a red-light camera when you were actually in the intersection when it was a red-light! As to the 'Speed' GOT YA.

It doesn't pay to speed thru any towns anymore, they all have'em, watch out in St Albert & Sherwood Park they have them at just about every intersection.

Looks like it will be great weather on Wednesday thru Friday for riding.

Get yourself a GPS that you can load POI's into & visit POIFriend.com & d/l the 'Redlight & Speed Areas for Canada it helps a lot.

Re: Edmonton Intersection cameras

They've been rolling them out over here also.... "Oh look, here's a way we can make more revenue!"
Eventually they'll probably wire cameras & speed traps into every traffic signal set... then it might be time to move to the country somewhere with no traffic lights but lots of nice winding roads.

Re: Edmonton Intersection cameras

Good luck finding a country with windy roads that isn't installing these things. They were installing them at lights in some small French towns in Provence when I was riding there last fall.
