Need Key cut

Hi guys, I have a problem, we just realized that the only set of keys for my wife's R1200C were in her purse when it got stolen a little over a week ago. I know we should have a second set but it is what it is and now we need to get something worked out. I called the dealer we bought the bike from and he said that they used to make keys but the machine broke and they don't do it any more. He would be glad to order us a set that would take a week or so. Does any one know of a place where we could get a key cut based on the VIN#? We can send proof of ownership and ideally we would get it sent next day to our home where the vehicle is registered.

Re: Need Key cut

Dave, that's tough news. I don't know about a key based on the VIN, but couldn't a good locksmith figure something out for you? It makes me want to go get a couple more copies of mine!

Re: Need Key cut

After a few phone calls I found that a new key can be cut with reference to the VIN but it takes about a week to get it. The weekend worked out well any way. Patti rode pillion on the LT for the second time. I know she hates it but I sure enjoyed it! At the same time we order the keys for the C I'm going to get an extra set for the LT.

Re: Need Key cut

Once you get the keys again take them to a real locksmith shop. There are BMW blanks that work perfectly. $3 each. And since they are flat you can put one in your wallet, one in the shaft of your riding boot, one under the seat....................

Re: Need Key cut

I know you already ordered a new key, but, a couple of years ago there were 4 Cs riding together. One of the guys lost his key at a lunch stop and I had my key plus a spare, as did one other guy. We tried all 4 keys and so happens mine worked. Not sure how many different lock configurations the Cs had, but obviously not a separate one for each and every bike.
