Windshield for R1200R Classis

Purchased a R1200R Classic this weekend. Loved it except for the windshield that came with it. I've had a suggestion for a Cee Bailey ($160) with a BMW mounting bracket ($140) or I found Ztechnik offers two choices. Z2405 (18.5 x 18.75) with mounting hardware for the same $300 or the Z2406 (21.5 x 21.5) for $325. Has anyone out there had any experience with either of these options?

Re: Windshield for R1200R Classic

Mother Goose,

I have a 2009 R1200R with a 24 inch Cee Baileys windshield. I tried the 20 inch one first and it was too short. There are two keys to windshield installation on the R1200R:

1. Get a taller windshield than what the manufacturers recommend.

2. Tilt the windshield by installing a plastic block under the front mounting attachment.

Go over to the R1200R forum and do a search on windshields and you will get plenty of advice:

Re: Windshield for R1200R Classis

Did you buy a 2011? If so, I am not sure there are any aftermarket shields out there yet. Are there any?

If you bought an 07 to 10 then I can tell you I bought a Ztechnic 181/2" screen which works perfect for me in the cold and cooler months. I also have a BMW Sports Shield which I no longer use as I bought another Ztechnic screen and cut it down for a summer screen. That way I do not have to change out the mounting hardware every change.

Here is a warning I give all on buying aftermarket windshields. What fits for one person will not necessarily work for you. We all fit differently on our bikes: inseam differences, mean body length differences match with different seat heights can make an expensive experience trying different shield to find the right one for you.

I recommend waiting until a big Eruo bike rally like the BMW MOA rally and others. Go and you will find most of the vendors there. The will let you try out their shield on your bike. Get the one that works the first time. The voice of experience speaks.
