Wanting to add an R1200S to the garage

I'm thinking of getting an R1200S to keep my RT company. Anything I should be looking for in this model? That is to say, are later models significantly improved over early ones or are they about same?

Any info that current owners can supply would be appreciated.

Lawrence, while you are getting your bike serviced on Tuesday ask for a ride on an r1200r. Most underated bike in the BMW stable. Its not as tall as a GS, not as heavy as an RT. Its a great bike to sit next to your RT. Wonderful, easy bike for in town riding. I also think your top case will fit it, though I may be wrong.

There was a recall issued on the 2007 R1200S, and 2006 R1200 HP2 models. On certain motorcycles, during assembly, the final-drive assembly O-ring may not have been installed correctly. A leak may occur at the location of this O-ring which is near the rear brake disc. Approximately 700 motorcycles were affected.

Good luck with your search. I have one, and although I really don't want to, I may have to let her go to a good home. PM me for details if interested.

Re: Wanting to add an R1200S to the garage

Honestly, even though the R1200R is different somewhat than the Rt, it is too similar. If you want to add a second bike, it should be something different. His idea of the "S" is the right idea. It is sporty and more aggressive and has the inline 4. I would also take a look at Ducati or Triumph as well.
