R1200R seat

ILast year I purchased a new R1200R. Love the bike, except the seat is a pain in the...
It seems that after 2-3 hours of riding the seat becomes very uncomfortable. Also, I tend to slide forward making it necessary to adjust my position every 10-20 min. I purchased a sheepskin cover but that only helped a little. Short of having a new seat made, which is expensive, what other suggestions would you have? I thought about going to a local upholsterer and asking them if they could re-contour my seat. I would aslo ask them to lower the seat, if possible. Does this make sense? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: R1200R seat

I am not familiar with the R1200R seat mounts. But on my old R1100RSL I would slide forward as well, fixed it by putting a 1/4" metal spacer under the front seat mount. If the seat mount is similar to my R1200RT with the metal rod with rubber stoppers at each end and 2 position slots. You can try placing a piece of doweling, under the metal rod, in the slot to lift the front of the seat a bit.

Some people like the Butt Buffer or Airhawk, but it sounds like you might want your seat lower.

I kept my eye open and finally found a good used aftermarket seat.

Re: R1200R seat

The RR stock seat design is the problem for most of us owners. It is convex shaped and the edges put pressure points in painful places, and was obviously designed for alien butts, not humans. For many of us it is a 30 minute seat. My only solution was to get a Rick Mayer custom seat that solved the problem instantly. I can ride as long as I like now, without limits. The rear part is much better for the Boss too !
