Dual front brakes on R65

I have a 1979 R65, with single front brake. What all do I need to convert to the dual discs, and is this possible. I would assume yes as the R65LS had the duals. I would think duals would make a big difference, the single just plain sucks, though granted I dont ride the bike very fast for this very reason.

Re: Dual front brakes on R65

I had an '83 R45 with the dual disc setup. The brakes were phenomenal. You'll probably have to scour the breakers for a complete R45/R65 front wheel, caliper(s)discs, lower fork legs and master cylinder.
Check first if you already have lugs for a second caliper to be mounted and check the wheel as well for disc mounting. You may be lucky and just need a disc, caliper, master cylinder and hoses.

BTW the R65LS had different wheels as I remember.

Have a look at the MAX BMW On-Line Parts Fiche. Click on the link, select R65, select 34-Brakes, and then look for Diagram #34_0597, Retrofit Kit, Double Disc Brake. That one is for models up to 09/1980.

My 1980 R65 came with dual discs. They were excellent and much needed in the 14 years I used that bike in the Alps.
