CLC doesn't like LED tailight

I installed a LED in my wife's tailight ( on her CLC ) and the "general" warning light came on. I put the standard bulb back in and it went off. Evidently, the LED does not draw enough and the bike thinks the bulb is burned out. Is there any way around that?

Re: CLC doesn't like LED tailight

Some of the manufacturers of other LED units include a load resistor to wire across the leads to fool the monitor into thinking there is a regular load. If you can find a 50 ohm 5 watt (or higher) resistor (Radio Shack?) that would emulate the 5 watt load of a normal tail light bulb. Just wire it across the leads.

Re: CLC doesn't like LED tailight

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I have a couple more LED arrays and a modulator to put in the circuit, perhaps that will add enough load. If not, I'll try your suggestion!

It won't. You will need a resistor. You might want to consider using the OEM bulb and auxillary LED arrays instead of the bulb replacement LED.
