Title Vs Badging

Hi, I recently purchased what I believed to be a 83 R100RT.
It's badged with R100Rt badges sides and rear.

But the title says R8T on it. Also says Body Style RS.

Just wondering if anyone else's title reads this way..

Is this just a BMW weirdness ? Or should I investigate further..

Unofficially..

John

The RS on a CA title is the code they use for all motorcycles in the Body style section.
As for the model your guess is as good as mine, most likely it was a mistake from when it was first registered. To be sure the title is good check your engine number against whats listed on the title. The title on M/C's in CA is required to match both the VIN and the Engine number.

R80rt

The engine number and frame number are the same.

Looked it up on the BMW vin decoder and it says R80 RT.

I guess some knucklehead changed out the body panels or some other funky thing like that.

Guess I'll pull all the R100 stuff off when I paint it this winter.

Not that I'm really dissapointed or anything like that. It's still a really cool old bike..

Got the carbs figured out and it's idles right now..Seems fairly smooth at 1k.

Oil pressure light eases on if it falls below about 900 rpm for too long. I guess that's probably normal.

Think I'm gonna take the lowers off the bike and leave the engine more exposed.

Also want to get some engine guards. Anyone have a source on these???

Thanks

John
