Recently I was on my first trip on my recently acquired 95 R1100RS. It came with BMW saddlebags, no trunk. I don't think the previous owner ever used the saddle bags & was rather apologetic at their scratched up condition. Prior to my trip (making a loop around Lake Michigan with my brother, app. 1000 miles) I had sanded all of the scratches out, wet sanded, buffed & ready to paint. On the first morning of our trip, we rode from Bourbonnais, just south of Chicago, up thru Chicago & were going thru Skokie headed to Milwaukee. We were on a busy 6 lane highway (not an interstate) & several motorists motioned that something was going on at the rear of my bike. I thought that perhaps my small tail bag was coming loose, but when I stopped, my left saddlebag had come off the bike (along with most of my clothes for the week, it had my concealed carry firearm in it). By the time I walked back up the highway, it was gone, but fortunately it did not cause an accident. I filed a report with the local law enforcement & they were not able to locate it either.
1) Now I'm wondering if the scratches were from a previous similar incident. I asked the previous owner if he had ever had any problems with that, which he had not. So, wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience.
2) If anyone knows of a source to find a used, left saddlebag, it would be greatly appreciated.

There was a lost and found saddle bag on Facebook under BMW r1200rt group I hope that is your bag, it posted few days ago. Do a search on it, I hope you get back what you lost. I had a similar on 2016 RT the lid popped open, both side.
