2000 R1100RS just stopped running

I was about 2 miles from home when the bike hesitated once, then again, and when I pulled the clutch lever in, it quit. I had to have it towed home. Where do I start? I turned the key on just now and heard the normal whirr. Is that the fuel pump or the ABS I don't know. What do I check first? It has gas.

Just to keep the thread at the top of the list, I suspect your Hall Effect device.
BMW calls it ignition sensor

But the basics are fuel and spark. So there could be more to the story.

Re: 2000 R1100RS just stopped running

Does the whirr stop after a couple of seconds or does it continue? If it stops then it is the fuel pump. If it doesn't stop it could still be the fuel pump with one of the gas tank internal fuel lines either leaking or loose.
That would also explain why the motor quit. No fuel pressure.
