Even older airhead

Here's my 1969 R60US, in original, unrestored condition. I've owned it since about 1974. Just had the wheels disassembled, rusty chrome spokes thrown away, buffed out the aluminum rims to just-less-than-stainless shine, and re-laced with stainless spokes. The chromed air filter cover is not original - I liked it, so I did it. Runs as good as it looks - if I tickle the carbs just right, it starts on the first kick (even with a dead battery). I like older Beemers.

I'm not sure that I have ever seen one which was actually "worn out". I have seen many trashed and crashed ... but never simply worn through.

And the older airheads are fairly easy to maintain on one's own ...

Back in the 1969 era, many /2 Beemers developed a bad rear main crankshaft bearing. I didn't know this when I bought the bike in 1973, and my bike had the problem. Since it was in great physical condition, I had the engine torn apart, slingers cleaned, and rear main bearing replaced (with a new design that won't develop the same problem, and hasn't for 33 years).

Thought I knew how to post pictures - guess I don't. Sorry.
