R51 /2

I casually search the internet for vintage bikes thinking I might want one someday, but this popped up locally, and I'm questioning the price. The guy has it listed for $8,590, and is literally right down the road from me. No other info about it other than it has 1,762 miles. Based on what little I know about these old bikes, shouldn't the price be a bit higher than that even if all serial numbers don't match?

That could be a great deal with matching numbers and title. I'm not famular with the details of this bike.

Re: R51 /2

Info is lacking in the ad. It doesn't say it runs, so I suppose that shouldn't be assumed, but it sure looks clean. I don't know enough about them to know what to check for as I'm sure value is dependent on originality and quality of restoration. I'm too conservative to buy it on a whim and cross my fingers its worth what I paid, plus I would have some explaining to do (I'm married) as I just bought a 2010 RT last August! (First BMW.)

You must go to this website ,do a search on R51/2 you will learn a lot.

The little research I did supports the bike you are looking at is the real deal ! Do go look at the bike and get the bike's history. This could be a once in a lifetime deal.

Re: R51 /2

As I've done more looking around for vintage bikes for sale, I've quickly realized the 51/2 I referenced at the beginning of this thread is probably NOT for sale. The marketplace website I found it on is notorious for bogus ads. Oh well. I'm really not ready to take on a /2 anyway. Maybe I'll build a cafe bike instead!

Condition of crankshaft (roller bearings) is critical.
